-- I scooped up a set of 17 inch Q45 rims from a 1999 model on Craigslist for a hundred bucks. What tire size should I run to keep my (1990 Q45) speedometer and odometer correct? Thanks kindly for any advice you can lend. NiCO is Nice.

I ran 225/50-17 with G35 wheels on the front on my 90Q. I don't think yours are staggered but if they are 235's will fit comfortably on the rear with no rubbing. Do a Google search for "tire size chart" and one of the links that comes up on page 1 is a speedometer comparison between the tire sizes you enter. As I recall the 225/50-17 were about 1%.

Is the width of new and old wheels 7" or 7.5"?

Go here: http://www.rimsntires.com/specs.jsp

Plug in your numbers and you'll get the info you need.

I'm running 235/50R17's on all 4 corners and only have a 1% difference in speed readings (i.e. at 70mph, I'm actually going 70.7mph)
No issues with rubbing whatsoever, but I'm not lowered...

You could run 245/45 17 as well without many issues. I ran this size on that size rim on my 2nd gen and was happy with the fit.

If the wheel width is 7.5" to 8.5" (certainly no lower than 7.0" - which is 0.5" too small, but usable), then a 245/45-17 tire will work well.

This.

More load rating, more choices, better wear, smoother ride, and a nice look.

Technically, those are for the lighter I30.

Be sure to check for balance, radial and lateral run out before mounting the tires.

Whats for the I30? Nothing of mine is "technically" for the I30.... If you are referring to the 17 inch rims they are off of a 1999 Q45, the 18 inch rims I'm currently running are from an M35x and my springs are aftermarket for the President, got em from audiovisiony33, he imported them. Unfortunately I got the M wheelset before I lowered it so I have a slight rub when going over bumps. The Q wheels are an inch smaller, bit lighter and only cost me a hundred bucks. Regardless the tire size I'm looking at I will be sure to buy the correct load and speed rating.

the key word here is load rating. I will never run anything lower than the XL I bought this time. Makes a huge difference in the way the car rides. I got 98 but I would even go higher next time. Michelin Pilot Sports 245/45 17 XL98 great choice :) I have them in 19" on 245/40 19 on M45 rims and it is a great setup.

I went with 235 45 17, I think they look great, cured my rub, and bumped gas mileage from 16mpg to 19 mpg. Thanks guys!!!

17"x7" is an I30 only wheel size. All FGY33 were17"x7.5", so technically your 17" size wheels are not for any heavier car according to Nissan, but what do they know? :tisk:

Yeah they are 1999 Q45 wheels so I suppose I understated the width by a half an inch. I think its funny how people reply on here without reading the original post, they are NOT I30 rims. But thanks anyway. As far as the Sumitomos go, I am happy with them, price was good, and the added gas mileage is a huge plus.

Might want to update your knowledge base, as both Tirerack and this months Consumer Reports rate some of the high performance Sumitomo tires near or at the top of their lists........times change, perceptions lag.
