Allright. I searched around the FAQ threads and I read alot of other peoples "car wont start" threads but most of them lead to a dead end or its a problem that I allready know its not.

So heres my spiel. Car ran great up untill about a month ago. The lil guy wouldnt start caused by a stock fuel pump finally going out. Im suprised it lasted as long as it did.

But anyways, I go out to my car and it cranks... and cranks. But its not catching.

I can smell fuel, Its got plenty of cranking power, just wont fire up. IDK what happened now. It was recently taking alittle bit more time to start instead of just firing right up. It took a few cranks and would fire but now its got nothing.

Anyways, anyone know what could be causing this? I mean what would just go out that would stop it from getting spark just like that?

Thanks for your help.

did you check if you had spark? Yur ignitor could be bad... if you have spark and fuel its prolly timing... did you take your cam angle sensor out recently? check it out and let us know

Idk if its getting spark because its hard to crank and check for spark with one person.

Is there a way to check for spark if your the only one working on it? Ive allways done the screwdriver trick with two people but IDK how id do it by myself.

I was actually thinking maby my ignitor chip went out but I have no idea if thats common or how that would even happen.

And no I havnt messed with the CAS at all. I made sure that the plug was solid on it though cause I know that it could cause some sorta starting problem.

Take out you spark plugs, make sure there's no fuel on them, or in the cyclinders.

Also, as for checking the spark, I would suggest getting a spark plug tester thing. I think you hook it up to the spark plug, and if it sparks than the thing will light up, so just crank hook it up yourself and see if it lights up when you crank.

As for checking the ignitor, your going to need someone for that, because you should have someone crank it while you hook it up to a multimeter and check for voltage.

is there a way to fix an ignitor if its bad or do you just gotta get a new one? Ive seen that the Z32 and Q45 will work. Are they very exspensive?

Ignitors are not servicable AFAIK.

You can pull one from a CA powered NX, or one from a Q45. You'll need the harness plugs if you do that though.

The SR ignitors are usually around 65+$ the Q45 are only like 35$ both used of course. I have a Q45 and its not that hard to splice in the plug to the SR harness.

OK, I took the ignitor outta my other car and it fired up. Took the old ignitor and pluged it in again and it fired up.

SO basically both my ignitors are A O K.

Later I went to start the car and it takes quite a bit of cranking and it finally fires. It just seems like its not sparking now.

Welp. Tomarows another day off so maby I can figure something out then (if it doesnt snow)

I need to take the injectors outta my other car and swap them to see if that helps alittle (seems to have a problem with flooding, possibly a leaky o ring on the injector???)

Yea, DEFINITLY change the the o-rings, that caused me a leak and it prevented me from keeping the car running, so make sure you swap both top and bottom o-ringsAlso, if you have fuel in the cyclinders, burn it off by unplugging the fuel injectors and trying to start the car with the spark plugs still attached

I dont understand now you could not start the car at all or it just takes a long time to turn over? What changed that it started all of the sudden? Does it have a hard time starting cold or after the motor has been runnin and then you turn it off?

thing is that its not a constant thing.

One day you will go out to the car and it wont wanna start, it will crank and crank and finally fire.

Then other days it will fire right up.

Then.... some days you will be driving it for a while and u turn it off, go into the store, come back out, and it will fire right up.

Other times it will sit and crank a few times then fire.

Its SO unconsistant it makes it hard to diagnose.

Check for a lose ground or a bad crank sensor. Is it something that happens when it is a cold start or a hot start and has it every stalled or does it run fine once it starts? Alot of times heat can cause a sensor to read to high of a resistance and can cause a no start problem.

once it starts it runs great. It does not studder or shut down ever.

Just some times on start up it takes WAY to much cranking.

I havnt driven it since a week and a half ago but I started it accouple times.

I started it last night and it took a few cranks but thats normal for a car thats been sitting.

Once it warms up a bit ill fittle with it. Its been snowing like a *****

Probably just like you said, its been sitting there for awhile. Try to start it up everyday for a week and see what happens
