Unisa is a Japanese company, and when you look at the old parts, you'll also see KYB on there. I think Unisa is the "OEM brand name".

Ok guys.........I suppose I will wait until Joe is back in the office from vacation go ahead and order the struts for Scotsdale. I will post picks and details of the fitment to the rest of the people with y33's that will soon be going through the same thing.

Advice very much appreciated.

I just ordered the rear shock inserts and also am replacing the associated rubber parts. One of my front shocks was leaking last winter just before my aftermarket warranty ran out, so I had them replaced along with the connection rods and rubber parts. I'm looking forward to having new shocks in the rear as well as the front. Should be a noticeable improvement.

Nothing besides your consistent lack of grasp of the obvious like spring rates.

If you have not done it yet I would tell you the KYBs are totally worth it, but if you went the standard rate your car will feel alot better with new shocks either way.

The KYB SR Specials are Amazing, best shocks I have ever put on a car.

Hey CHRISFREND did you ever get around to replace your rear shocks becuase I plan on doings this for my 97y33 also. Was the rear shocks 105.74 each and if you did do it already did correct your rear problems and did the ride comfort increase

I replaced my rear shocks and associated rubber bushing and other parts last fall. It made a noticeable improvement. The ride is smooth and less jiggly. The new rubber parts seem to contribute to a more supple feel in the suspension. At about 100k, my car was past due for new rear shocks. The price you were quoted seems to be about what I paid at Scottsdale Infiniti -- really not too expensive. If your priority is ride comfort, the stock shocks are a good bet. Definitely well worth it.

When I had the front struts replaced, I also asked them to minimize the tightness of the front stabilizer bar links so the bar wouldn't engage so quickly. As a result, the car feels much less heavy and doesn't understeer as much. Something else to consider if your car feels as though it has heavy understeer.

THANKS SO MUCH for the reply. I seem to have ok suspension in the back but the front feals rough as hell and I have a sort of clunk clunk noise coming from the front right driver side. also the jigly jigly fealing/noise. I want to replace all four struts and rubbers.

Did you use the strut inserts or did you buy all new struts.

do you remember the price for all parts you ordered final price?

If you talk to Joe at Scottsdale Infiniti he can tell you exactly what rubber parts are associated with the front and rear shocks. For the rears, I just ordered what he recommended: bracket assembly, bushings, rear spring seats bumper assembly, and shocks. The rear shocks were about $105 each with a NICO discount; the whole bill for all parts was about $385.

Don't worry about each rubber part, Scottsdale can advise you on what should be replaced. They are very easy to talk to and deal with.

I did also replace the fronts with inserts and bushings and the connection rods over a year ago. Since it was under an aftermarket warranty I let the dealer do it and it came to $1,300. The front inserts were about $140 each. They may be cheaper at Scottsdale but in any event they are not as expensive as I had feared. Fortunately, one strut had started to leak and the warranty company then agreed to replace the struts and rods. n

After all this the car rides and handles very nicely. If you have a standard model and want to stiffen the rear spring rates a bit you might consider replacing your springs with the springs from the touring model if you decide to replace the rear shocks.

I had a 1995 Maxima that had a problem in the front suspension similar to what you are describing and it turned out to be a broken strut.

Wow Thanks Chris, finnaly my mind has been cleared. that took care of all my problems. I also believe that a broken strut is my exact problem as all of this comes from the one corner of the car the same corner that is the roughest when going over bumps

Good luck with your shocks and struts. This web site has tons of information about other aspects of your car, and is the best one on the internet for the Q45.
