If you talk to Joe at Scottsdale Infiniti he can tell you exactly what rubber parts are associated with the front and rear shocks. For the rears, I just ordered what he recommended: bracket assembly, bushings, rear spring seats bumper assembly, and shocks. The rear shocks were about $105 each with a NICO discount; the whole bill for all parts was about $385.
Don't worry about each rubber part, Scottsdale can advise you on what should be replaced. They are very easy to talk to and deal with.
I did also replace the fronts with inserts and bushings and the connection rods over a year ago. Since it was under an aftermarket warranty I let the dealer do it and it came to $1,300. The front inserts were about $140 each. They may be cheaper at Scottsdale but in any event they are not as expensive as I had feared. Fortunately, one strut had started to leak and the warranty company then agreed to replace the struts and rods. n
After all this the car rides and handles very nicely. If you have a standard model and want to stiffen the rear spring rates a bit you might consider replacing your springs with the springs from the touring model if you decide to replace the rear shocks.
I had a 1995 Maxima that had a problem in the front suspension similar to what you are describing and it turned out to be a broken strut.
