need some quick answers Please!!!

First off I'd like to say I have learned alot from you guys and wish to keep on learning.

Thanks to all that have helped me in the past. Here goes:

Just recently I noticed my car is making a strange noise like its howling when I'm driving and the turbo is spooling up when I let go of the throttle it howls along till my revs reach idle its very faint and you can only hear it if you pay attention to it.

Any Ideas what that could mean????

Also I keep having to clean sludge build up around the water pump. what do I need to replace here.

Does it sound like a small boost leak somewhere? Because mine makes that sound too, and I could swear I have a boost leak somewhere, but I can't find it for the life of me. I've checked all my couplings, all my piping, and tehre are no holes, anywhere.

so if you stomp on the gas, your turbo won't spool? As for the water pump I'd say that you need to flush your cooling system, you don't know if this was ever done to your engine in Japan. I'd suggest a flush and then see if it still does it. As far as you turbo not spooling sounds like a wastegate issue to me, dunno though Chris

sorry it is a S13 red top Sr20 mileleage is around 80k

here are my mods hope that helps as well:

Hks FMIC, Blitz BOV, Denso fuel Pump, Tomei FPR, boost marking at 8-9 psi.

If I had a boost leak would I still reach full boost??? Because I do.

Why is does my turbo spool up so loud all of a sudden?

ur complaining about that!? sorry i'm just post whoring. i duno whats wrong. but you didnt say you werent spooling right, u just said it has a wierd noise. do you know what side of the car the howling noise is coming from? or just the middle?

it is coming from the turbo's side Where are the most common boost leaks located?????

I dont think you have boost leak. How bad have you ragged on your turbo? psi wise. You would have other signs if your turbo seals were going but you could have a fu(ked turbo. Any oil around the seals on your turbo. any smoke? compressor wheel can make the whining nose real loud. Or this is bullspit and it could just be a noisy water pump. The usual things that make whining noises with rpms is water pump, power steering and turbo.

if the water pump was the one causing this noise would that mean I would need to replce it????

I haven't ragged on my turbo that hard I have boosted up to about 10-12 psi but it would be for one night and I ve only done it like thrice.
