First off it's a long story but I received an redtop SR20 front clip, well have a of a front clip from a local guy. He was trying to clear his garage before he moved so he was selling everything dirt cheap. I bought the 1/2 clip from him for $1000, later on in the week I bought an S13 hatchback shell for $20!

Ok so after about 2 months of piecing together all of the stuff I was missing we finally get everything installed and ready...After the usual little things you missed along the way, we cranked it over.It starts but has TERRIBLE rod knock past 1500rpm.

What I need is some opinions on what to do, so I figure why not ask people who have been dealing with these engines/cars for a long time.

1. Should I buy just a long block? And drop it in, or should I not trust a long block thats most likely been neglected or sitting for a long time.

2. Just save up and buy motor set from a reliable source, aka heavythrottle, Phase2, enjuku, etc.

This may seem like a pointless thread, but I just really need some help/opinions. All my friends are telling me different things, you should go with KA, KA-t, CA, SR20DE, rebuild it, etc. But I figure it would be cheaper in the long run to just buy another SR. Given I was to rebuild it, I would do it right an end up spending as much as a new front clip.

Call me a bit paranoid but they're all junk yard engines. they'll all have something wrong with them. Just a matter of how big a problem it is.

1. if you get the longblock, get it from a reputable shop. at least it'll work. then rebuild the one that's got the rod knock at your own pace.

2. if you get one from a better shop, it'll cost you more but they'll give you much better support and you'll be rebuilding later.

3. rip the one out you got now and rebuild that one and forget buying another engine like in options 1 and 2. only thing though, is if you need your car, you'll be building it as fast as you can and might not be able to put all that you want in it (at least the internals which wouldn't be bolt ons).

3 scenarios, you got alot of thinking to do.

i say pull it and rebuild it if you have another car to drive in the mean timebut also if you go with one from a good known shop its going to take time to get to you and install that..but not as much time i dont think..theres my 2 cents good luck

Thanks a ton guys for your imput and advice. Yes it is my daily driver as well, sooo I'm kinda feelin' just buying a long block, from either Adrenaline Motorsports, JR Auto, or Marco from SR20 Store.
