Hello all, ive been loving my g just as much as ever lately, especially when i hit a 100 on the NJ Turnpike.....however next year i will be going to college up in syracuse and will not be bringing my g up with me....now i need a SUV and am looking in the pre-owned area, i was thinking of getting the Jeep SRT-8....now im looking for something from 08 on....i wanted to get some of your opinions on if i should go that route of maybe look at a different SUV, i would like to keep the price relatively low as i am still paying for my g and at 630 a month it will be difficult to fit in a jeep as well, would it be better to just suck it up and buy new or what????....so if any of you know any information to further help me it would be awesome....ik this is an infiniti forum but u guys have always helped me when i had questions on my car, so i figured i would start here

thank you guys for the help

I'm not sure that a Jeep would be your best choice as far as reliability is concerned. I would do some research.

Make sure you leave your G in good hands. It needs to be cranked at least every 2 weeks and run long enough to get to operating temperature. Make sure you use a fuel additive to treat your fuel for long storage. Sta-Bil is a good product.

Also, make sure they run the A/C so all the hoses and components are lubricated.

I've lived in Rome, about 1 hour north of Syracuse...I agree that the G isn't the best car for the area. You could put on snow tires in the winter...but you'd be better off with at least all wheel drive. I despise Dodge, so I can't recommend the jeep. But I know the SRT-8 will be almost as useless in the snow as the G with summer tires.

I love my Mitsu outlander, and if I needed it for the snow, I'd get the all-wheel drive version.

Currently $630 a month still in college and you want to pay for another vehicle?

Doesn't make financial sense to me.

Take the G with you and get snow tires for the winter. Don't drive in heavy snow. Carry a shovel and join AAA just in case you get stuck.

Much cheaper than paying for another vehicle.

Now if you need the SUV to carry all the stuff with you to college then perhaps you should just get rid of the G. Keep in mind SUV's don't handle all that well especially at high speed.

Just my $.02

Good luck

well im not sure what will happen with my g as far as if i will end up paying for it or give it to my father for the 4 years that i am gone....im also considering asking if my parents will pay for the remaining 23 k i owe and when i get home i will pay back the money to my father over time....hopefully that would work and it goes over well with him.....at this point i dont feel the need to get rid of my car....at least not now or anytime in the near future....i do however feel that it would be a good investment to have an SUV to carry around anything i would need at college and just in general when i get home

on a side note thanks for some opinions about the SRT and what i should look into....and to soul id look for something in the range of 300-400 dollars

Ah, dude, not to be rude...if you need mommy and daddy to bail you out on your current car, you really shouldn't be looking at another $20k+ car. Get an 2000 - 2002 Pathfinder AWD for $6k - $9k. Even that's a stretch. I got through college with a $4k Toyota Celica. That's my $.02.

When i was in college I had a 1940 Pontiac 4 door sedan 3 speed stick on the column and running boards.
Paid $35.00 for it from a customer that I delivered newspapers to. My dad advised me not to buy a 58 Ford but I didn't listen. Had it a few months, nothing but trouble and sold it for $500 less than I paid for it.
Delivered the Long Island Press for five years saving for my 1st car. My mom & dad did not supply me with a car. I worked my a$$ off for mine.
