Ok, some of you have been following be adventure of repairing a wireing harness after a rodent chewed thru it. I repaired it the best i could (I am an electrician) and EVERYTHING seems to be working.

http://forums.altimas.org/zero...-this

The only problem I am having now is I cant shift out of park. The brakelights work and the brake pedal needs to be pushed to start the car, and it starts. So all of that on the break circuit seems to be working, except shifting from park. I can use the Shift lock release and the car drives just fine, but every time I shift to park, it locks again. I h ave tried disconnecting the battery to reset the computer, it didnt seem to work. I have checked all of the fuses and relays having to do with the brake, starting, and transmision circuits. But also, the windows didnt need to be reset, does this mean the comp did not reset?

Second, Is there some kind of thing where there could be a trouble code in the computer that is locking the transmission? Should I take it to a shop and have them read codes and reset?

3: should I tear the wiring out again and trouble shoot the brake circuit? Just seems wierd that the brake lights work, the brake-to-start works, but the shift lock release does not.

Any advice from all of you who have a lot of time messing with your rigs would be great. I have had this car less than a month so my experience with it is limited.

Thanks!

I am by far no expert at this...but I would imagine that you may have tripped some sort of safety that needs to be reset. Kind of like if you have an amp that is about to overheat, it will go into "trip" mode so that you dont fry the bastard. If you could somehow reset the trip (plug it in for codes), that might work?

Not sure, but I read through the first thread you posted and I have cried for you...

Yea, I am starting to think that may be the case. I haven't torn everything back apart to triple check the repaired wiring yet. I am about 95% sure that the wiring is correct now, especially since all the other circuit functions are working propperly. I have come up with a sort of work around by jumpering past that..whatever it is and bypassing the the mechanical interlock. Everything seems to be just fine with the bypass. The shift lever functions normal even with the bypass, as does the lights and indicators. Im just not 100% the bypass will be fine for normal opperation for a extended time. Since I dont know everything about the safety functions, sensors and all that hoopla i dont know if this could cause any mechanical or electrical damage over time.

If money was tight (I friggin got laid off 2 weeks after buying my A/C) it would be no question to take it in and have everything checked out. But I would rather spend a few hundred bucks now to just have it checked out than have something go wrong in a month or something that is gonna cost 1000s to fix,

So I think monday i will take it in and have her hooked up to a diagnostic computer, if it is just a simple safety code that needs to be cleared, then problem solved. If it is something wrong with the wiring, I know just how to get to it and what I did. Hopefully there isnt catasrophic damage in the TCM!

Keeping my fingers crossed!
