Okay, well I'm new here and I'm looking in to importing a 93 GTR from japan. as much as I don't want it sitting on a boat in a shipping container that might be the route I'll need to take. are there other ways to import it? also if theres any one that HAS imported one- what do I do/what will happen after it arrives.

I mean for instance. it arrives at shipping yard, I go to pick it up. I obviously could drive it illegal (un registered/no insurance blaw blaw) or towed. but when I were to get it- would I be stopped?

or if it could be imported by air/carrier ship would I run in to any other problems?

Ok 1st post so you get a bye. If your in the US( gonna say you are ) and you want a skyline you have to wait till 2014. In 2014 the 89 Skyline R32 will be legal for importation. Now its illegal. There is no way other than contacting an RI( registered Importer) to get a skyline here. Only model availible is the R33 95-98 I think someone will correct me.

Oh ya going rate to legalize a R33 through a RI is 20k. After it is all said and done you are going to shell out over 30k worth of shipping fees, taxes, RI fees, just to have a car from 1995. Not worth it.

Check this thread for more info. zerothread/159216

I know some of the details, my question was transporting it. for instance. lets just say I store it in my garage and it isn't driven. I plan to do things legaly, I just want to make sure I actually can take it home on a flat bed after its unloaded.

edit: also, I'm not limiting my self to specific years. I'm also looking at a 95 with an R33

Placing it on a trailer isn't the issue. It's making sure it's not seized by Customs that's the issue, and then what are you gonna do with it once it's here?

99% of people who ask these questions haven't done their homework - that's why there's not a mad rush of people responding with helpful info.

who said I'm in a mad rush? if it takes me a year or 4 years to get 30k so be it. I didn't say Im buying it next week. I conciser THIS to be my homework. I re-search before I buy.

what do I plan to do with it? rebuild the engine.

whoops my bad ;-) miss read that then haha

if worse came to worse I'll end up bidding on one already IN the use with everything done. I'm just re-searching my best choices. if anything I would even drop an US legal engine in I like the older body style better then the new ones (plus the price tag)

You put it on a boat...it's going to be on the shipping manifest.

Customs goes over *EVERY* manifest of *EVERY* boat that comes into the US. That's their job.

They see "car: Nissan Skyline" and there's 100% chance they're going to impound it.

Doubt me, call them up and ask.No R32 is legal to be imported into the US right now. Same with the 1995 R33.

Once the car, based on month of manufacture, is 25 years old, then it's ok. So yea, you've got about 4 years to wait on that. For a 1993 car, you've got 8 years to wait.

If you're not concerned of if it's Federally Legalized, then your best be is definitely finding one of the illegally imported ones already here. Or the rare Motorex cars that come up for sale (not mine anymore :D )
