First off, this seems like a really good forum for these cars, the best I've found searching.

My future brother in law is a college kid, not much cash, and he has a 92 M30 with no brakes. He's been told it will cost $2500 to have it fixed, I think he's getting robbed. I went down to look at the car tonight to figure out where it's leaking and found it to be the abs control valve???

It's a box on the upper passenger side of the inner fender, towards the firewall. It's leaking from a tube that seems to connect the base of the unit to the top of the unit. Seems to me that they should make a rebuild kit or something to repair this, it can't be much more then some seals, am I off base on this? I've worked on cars my whole life, but never on an Infiniti, and I guess I want to know if I can give him a hand fixing it for low bucks, or if he's screwed. Advice appreciated.

Welcome to Nico!

Does the ABS pump prime? Can you hear any pressure?

Find a non leaking unit from junkyard.........no Nisan rebuild kits but you are correct gaskets...........common on first year Q and M.Cardone use to rebuild them [at least for Q] if you sent the old unit in and waited.

One of the reasons to buy an old wrecked Q/M is to get a working ABS to resell for $500.

I think it's priming, but I didn't really troubleshoot it that long. He took the car in to have a tire put on it, and on the way home the brakes started to go. He was convinced they broke something and took it back, and they quoted $2500 to fix it.

My wife mentioned it to me when we were down (we live a bit north of them) around where they lived, and I wanted to swing in to see if he was getting screwed or not. I just had her pumping the brakes while I looked for the leak, and noticed the leaking from the unit itself. Damn shame you can't rebuild them.

I'm going to talk to him again today to see what he wants to do. He loves the car and as long as it runs, I'd like to see him keep it. Seems like a nice little car, and the body is in really good shape.
