I have some burnt orange leather interior pieces I want to put in my Roadster but don't want to break anything. I have a shift boot, armrest and door insert leather pieces to swap out. Anyone done it before and how do these pieces come off?

Thanks!

OMG gunner if you have never done anything like this before, now would probably not be the best time to start, small replacement parts that can be broken during this type of stuff is a bit costly. Bring it to Nissan and see what they quote you. Then call a reputable performane/body shop and see what they quote. A friend of mine tried some of these exact things and broke a few clips and door seals, and other minor things, so he went to nissan to get replacements and they stuck the carrot deep in him, so be careful, let us know how it went.

I've done this type of stuff on older cars...I got an email that simply said "they just pop off" from the manufacturer of the armrests. I tried to simply do that and stopped because it didn't feel right. I can only imagine what Nissan will charge me...

Well a lot of the interior components really do just pop off, but there's a lot of plastic clips and plastic screws and pop-pins holding down these parts... if you're not careful when you're prying them up.. you can break these things and have to get new parts.. and they're not cheap...at least from the dealer... there are some collision repair catelogues you can order from that will save you some cash...

I'll try to find some technical drawings and post them up for the parts you need.

all plastic screws and clips... becareful not to break em that leather insert in the door may be held in by pins or maybe screwed tight from behind the door finisher, try prying it if it doesn't come off you might have to pull the whole thing out..

Thanks for the help...I'll keep looking around a bit. I hate not being able to do it myself...I really don't want to pay someone to do something that seems to be easy or should be easy.

From experience, usually the door inserts are "welded" in with plastic welds. It looks like a big melted chunk of plastic that's been flattened out. The easiest way to remove them is with a dremel, the "correct" way to do it is to melt them, then when you put the door panel back on, re-"weld" them.

I've recovered my entire interior from the inserts up in gray vinyl and red suede, and I can tell you it's no easy task! Feel lucky you were able to purchase pre-done panels. How much did you pay, if you don't mind me asking?

i've taken my door panels off and it wasn't hard, just watch for the screws inside where the window controls are, and don't rip that panel clean off... just be careful you'll learn that you can do it, and anything else to your car that doesn't require tuning the ECU.
