Hey, first of all I wanna thank whoever looks at this and responds for taking the time to. Im not a rookie when it comes to working on cars, BUT up until this point, I've only torn down small block fords, so an overhead cammer is a little bit of a different animal. I mean for the most part everthings the same, just in different places. Im hoping there are some really mechanically savy guys here who can help me, and after reading through some of the threads here, there seems to be some. Now on to the problem.
My 2.5 finally succumbed to the dreaded head gasket leak. So now Im staring at this thing, wondering if I have to take off the timing chain to remove the heads,..... anyone know for sure? Because if that's the case, then its a lot bigger job than I had anticipated. That means I need to support the engine and pull of the cover which is basically the entire front portion of the engine. Im looking at it, and Im thinking that if I can get the cams off, I should be able to pull the heads without touching the timing chain, or the oil pump/ timing chain cover. Im doing this as I type, so a quick response would be greatly appreciated.
Another thing,... I saw an ad on this site for thermagasket,... anyone ever use this in their alty??? Looks like it works good, but I've seen a million infomercials, so I take the claims with a grain of salt. The reason why I ask is that Im not bothering with machining the heads, so after I change the gasket, if it leaks again, I'd just use the thermagasket.
thanks again guys.
