Hello all and thank you for looking at this. I recently purchased a 1990 Nissan 300zxTT. Its all bone stock with about 94000 mies on it and I want to start modding it and make it a pretty fast car. Somewhere around 450-500 hp. What should I do first? I have a real good mechainic who is great with turbo cars and he will be doing all the work but he keeps telling me to do research and find out what a stock block, rods and pistons turbos and etc can hold. So anyone who can help with good product lines and what I should do and how I can get to my 500 hp goal for this car. I can spend some good money on it but I dont want to kill my bank account. But if it came to putting better parts in it I would fork out extra money. Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated and I'm glad to be apart of this forum. Thanks for the advice in advance.

Well, the VG motor is a pretty good start if you're looking for 400-500 hp
But with that kinda mileage it's getting close to the 100k service mark. and if you're going to try to push more power out of the engine i suggest you do the 100k service before you do any upgrading.

but I am no guru or expert. So my signature should help you out a bit.

good part for me is I work for a nissan dealer and I can have them take care of the car for me. The timing belt was recently replaced at 80k. I am no expert on this car but I loved them since the first day I saw one and I finally had the means to buy one. I just want to build this car right for sure and anyone who has one or knows a lot about them their input will be greatly appreciated

+1 for checking out the Z specific forums. Those guys have been modding the Z32 since there has been a Z32.

Getting the 100k service taken care of is the best advice for where to start. Once she's up to speck, you're going to be looking at some serious cash if you're serious about 450-500whp.

I suggest maxing out the stock turbo's first, which is about 15-16 psi if I remember correctly. In order to do this, you'll need a new ECU tune, and new injectors to match your tune. When upgrading your ecu and injectors, they are usually purchased as a matched set. Meaning the ECU tune will be for a factory mass airflow sensor and a set of 550cc injectors for example. Think about your end goal when shopping for an ECU tune. Get injectors that will be big enough to reach 450 whp.

If you use the calculator HERE, you'll see that in order to achieve 500whp, you'll want at least a set of 550cc fuel injectors like I suggested above.

The guys in the Z32 forum will be able to point you in the right direction for sources to use for parts and whatnot. I'm only familiar with Jim Wolf Technology where the Z is concerned.

The internals of the VG30 will reach 500whp without requiring replacement. The big expense will be upgrading the turbo's and associated parts that go with, like the FMIC and exhaust etc.

The Z32 is a great car even in factory trim. Best of luck on your build!

Welcome to Nico!
