i own a 91 nissan stanza, it has a KA24E stock so i know the engine will fit. the Japanese equivalent is the U12 Bluebird, which was AWD and came with either an SR20DET or a CA18DET so I know those will fit as well (and ive seen several SR20DET stanzas).

after much deliberation, i've decided to go with a KA24DET. i'll get a KA24DE out of an older Altima and then start piecing together the turbo kit. that way i can take my time on it and swap it in the car when it's ready (and still have the KA24E as a backup motor in case i pop the DE =P)

i want to go with a T3 or a T4/T04 hybrid, internally wastegated, running about 6-7 psi. i want to be able to do this on somewhat of a budget, ie., i dont want to be spending a lot on new pistons and lots of new internals. this will be a daily driven sleeper :D

my question is basically, what are some steps to go about this? what kind of rebuilding should i do to the engine (stock internals)? what kind of components will i need? my list so far has been...

manifold will either be a JGS custom or a log style from an older datsun Z18ET engine, ported to fit the KAT3/T04 turboStarion FMICused DSM BOVdownpipe, new exhaustrising rate fuel pressure regulatorwalbro fuel pumpoil lines, misc. piping, guages, etc.

i know i'm going to need some kind of new ECU or something like that, but im not to familiar about how those work. any additions/subtractions, info, help, advice, anything would be GREATLY appreciated. im learning as i go :D

The KA24DE should be able to handle a moderate amount of boost on stock internals so long as they are in good shape. I'd suggest a search within this forum. The technical aspects of turbocharging a RWD KA should apply to the FWD KA. The biggest difference will be fitment of the parts. By the way, there is at least 1 manifold that exists that should fit a FWD KA without problems within an Altima. It might work with the Stanza(w/Altima KA) as well.

just a note, the z18et manifold will not fit the ka24de. only the ka24e (i'm not sure about the fwd version though).

ahh okay.. .thank you very much. i knew it had to be ported a little to fit, but i wasnt aware that it only fit the KA24E. Ill probably end up going with the JGS manifold then. thanks :)

my two biggest questions are...

what do I need to do to the block before turboing it? i hear people talk about hot tanking and this and that, and im not sure what i should do. just take it apart and clean it?

and secondly, for 5-7 psi on stock internals what kind of ecu/airfuel controller/management, RRFPR, FMU, ECU, SAFC, so many things, what do i need? will stock injectors work?
