hey guys. Ok we are just finishing up my sr20 swap on my s14 and i have a couple questions. First off is it normal for a newly swapped engine to smoke? there is alot of whiteish grayish smoke coming out from the downpipe i checked my oil and it looks normal doesnt look like a milkshake and my radiator fluid looks normal and doesnt seem to be loosing any so i dont think its a blown headgasket also its not over heating next question is, the motor is missing at idle and revvs slowly intill boost then seems fine till about 5k rpms then seems to cut out and when coming to a stop with the clutch in the rpms almost go to 0 any help would be awesome, i have tried searching but havent found anything usefull and this is the first time i have done anything like this so i am very confused and worried . thanks for all the help!only mods basicly are fmic, blitz bov, and downpipe

Yes, it is semi normal for them to smoke a bit when you first start them up, this is from oil getting in fun places like cylinders, inside he exhaust housing of the turbo. New exhaust parts also love to smoke as well.

Check these things.

1. boost leaks - shouldn't be any2. Timing - 15 deg btdc3. tps voltage .45 when closed4. maf voltage .009ish when car on but not running

I would check timing and change idle through the IACV screw.Clean MAF

When I first got my car up and running it made the driveway and surrounding areas look like a scene out of Gettysburg. Oil gets in fun places when the motor has been rocked around and stuff, like on top of the pistons, inside the exhaust manifold, turbo's exhaust side etc.... just check oil levels after a bit of driving and do a compression test, but you should be fine.
