So, I changed my oil the other day and I put in Royal Purple 10W-30 with oil filter, I now notice my oil pressure gauge moves a lot, sometimes from close to 0 to just below 120 psi when the RPMs go up. It has always stayed at 60 psi before the oil change. I have not noticed any change in temp so that’s good. But wtf is going on with the oil gauge?

Mine has always moved. When cold idle, it's at 60psi, warm is in between 0 and 60 and 3000 rpm cruise between a little over 60psi. If drive the car right when I get a temp reading on the gauge, the oil psi hits between 60 and 120.

My reading always fluctuated based on what the engine was doing, no idea why your needle was always reading 60PSI. I can't imagine in what universe an oil change would free up a stuck needle, but I suppose anything's possible.

I'm assuming you change your oil at regular intervals, what type of oil were you using before you put in the RP?

Keep an eye on it just to be sure, and maybe check your oil level more often then you normally would and make sure everything is ok down below but I'd be more concerned about a gauge that didn't fluctuate as opposed to one that did.

Under moderate to heavy acceleration it should stay around 90-120, idle or steady pace (one speed/cruise) should be around 60.... i dont think it is ever supposed to hit 0. I could be wrong tho

I have never seen 0psi on the oil pressure gauge, and if I did, it would scare me a lot. Fluctuation is normal. Constant 60psi is not. Whatever was wrong, it looks like you fixed it with the oil change.

yeah, the pump is driven straight off the crankshaft, the only time it should be constant is when your engine RPMs are too. the only time it should read 0 is if the cars not running, your gauge is on the blink or your pumping oil on the ground / not pumping oil at all. (both these cases are bad ) i think around 30 on the gauge at idle is pretty typical, and unless its dramatically higher than that at idle, id think your okie-dokie

yeah my gauge does the same it goes from about thirty at idle to 120 when i punch it and i took it to the dealership and the mechanic told me it was normal because the gauge is a real one not a dummie gauge like on a mustang where it just stays the same until your car breaks down.

I put mobil 1 10w-30 and it is the same for me as well. I say it's normal since we all have it.

I have an 06 touring model, and the gauge fluctuates quite a bit..
