I really don't know what to look for right now but I'll explain the situation and maybe someone can help me out here....

I have an s13 shell rolling chassi with everything needed for a sohc ka to drop right in and go....

A guy messaged me on another forum that has a sohc ka that came in a 95 nissan 2wd truck mpi (fuel injected) for sale....

I was wondering if it would work in my s13 bolted up to my sohc ka transmission....

I saw a nissan truck ~not sure what year it was~ but It was non-fuel injected in the junkyard a while back. I was looking for a starter for my old sohc at the time so I pulled it out, bought it and took it home just to find out that the starter housing (in the block) was different and it wouldn't fit nor bolt up correctly...

were the 95 sohc truck's fuel injected?

Will it work in my s13 with my stock sohc ecu and wiring harness?

Was there any structural difference between the 89 s13 sohc and the 95 truck sohc? Was the egr tube located in a different place like in this picture?

this isn't the motor but another one I'm looking at...

What year was this tube set up on the ka and what difference does it make?

What will I need to do in order for this to work?

I can get the motor for pretty cheap and he's guaranteeing that it works....

OR

Should I just pass on this and wait it out till I find another motor?

Nah already looked there... not much help...

After doing a little research I've found out that the truck motor has a milder cam in it along with a bunch of other little details. The engine stamp or engine code is d21 I'm not sure if this means it says that on the block or not...

The good...

I am going to be able to use it in my 240 but I will need to swap oil pans, the oil pickup, oil filter mount, engine mount brackets, and the dipstick hole is in the wrong place, so I'll have to drill a new one and plug the old... Lucky for me I have all those parts laying around already...

The bad...

The s13 sohc came with a crank gurdle which is a far better made setup than the truck sohc was made with. The block's are pretty different and you have to use the truck crank in the truck block. The car crank won't work b/c the crank's are different lengths. The truck block is a little longer than the s13's and the the flywheel will grind on the back of the block if you use the car crank.

The truck block is also lacking the block to transmission skirt that the japanese motor has. Also the starter is different, I'll need to use the truck starter and harness pigtail... The sohc truck block's were made in Mexico and the s13 block's were machined in japan. So they have different engine stamps on them as well.

The truck block has a rear sump oil pump and the 240 has a front sump oil pump which is why you have to change the oil pan and oil sump location.

The pistons in the 90-97 d21 ka24e yeild a 8.6:1 compression ratio

Most of the ka24e pistons in the truck versions of the ka24de are top coated with graphite similar to ka24de

They use a lot of the same parts tho which is good...

What this all means is I can use the motor that this guy has but I need to customize it a little for it to work in my car.... All important sensor's are the same tho and I just need something to get me by till i finish up my dohc ka-t that I've been working on for ever now lol...

I'll let you guy's know if I go through with this or if I abandon ship! More research is still needed....

Maybe someone else can tell me what's up with that egr lookin tube on the picture I posted earlier.... I'm still left wondering

I've never seen it like that before

Nice research. Is it that hard to find a S13 KA in your area that you can just drop in, or is the price just too good to pass up? Sounds like a lot of work for a "Drop In".

Maybe save the money and put it towards your DOHC KA-T.

I would pass on this my self.

Just my 2 cents.

Well right now its pretty hard to find one. It's usually not this hard to find one but all the ones I've found here lately are blown up... I know where a dohc is right now with a hole in the block from a rod going through the side of cylinder number 1 and I've got a sohc block in my storage room right now... So I'm considering trying to make a Frankenstein motor out of the 2... I just need a rod and gasket set... But i just found another shell and I'm trying to sell my maroon one for 350 so i guess we'll see how this goes....
