Need some help getting this little guy loose.

So, I was putting in new rotors and lug studs, along with locking lugs for the new Z wheels, and everything was going smoothly (aside from the torn up hands from 15 years of bolt siezing ) and as I go to put everything back togather, I realize one of the damn torque members arent moving. I check and sure enough no lube on that thing whatsoever. Ok, big deal, I have two spares in my trunk, but this thing will not budge for s***! WD-40, a short amount of time over a torch, whatever I do this bastard wont move. Anyone able to offer up any help?



The sad part was, my rotors were completely corroded on as well, just got lucky to have two bolts that I didn't even know I owned to help me.

On a side note, who the hell paints calipers gold on a maroon zenki

Hate to say it, but that looks like a "replace, not repair" thing.

It's been a while since I pulled mine all apart, but I can't recall ever messing with those. If they're frozen in place, they're likely corroded down inside... which means you're gonna need to clean the interface after removal, and re-lubricate.

But if the corrosion has pitted the surfaces, you'll be wasting your time.

Want me to look for a set of calipers from a state with no rust?

I'd let it soak in PB Blaster for an hour or so...



but if that doesn't work... like AZ said... time to replace.

lol while I do appreciate the offer, I'm afraid my parents aren't as thrilled that I'm once again stuck in the garage, so im gonna need to source out a part faster than that. Thanks though!

edit- on a side note, it's sitting with some seafoam deep creep on it ATM. Put it on when i posted, will check it in a bit, otherwise, time to find a part before I get kicked out of the garage :D

You can drill a small hole in the bracket where the slide pin goes,spray some PB blaster or WD40 in the hole ,let it soak a while and then try twisting the pin and moving in and out.Take a hammer and give the bracket some good blows. It works better if you have an air hammer! Had one just like it in the shop today.Be sure to seal the hole back up.

i had this problemcould NOT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD get the thing loose.tried everything.. so i ended up replacing the bracket all together. Like AZHitman said.its a replace rather than repair thing..

It's a lot like an old Datsun brake cylinder bore - Once it's corroded, the tolerances are SO tight, and there's SO much surface area (relative to teh size of the part), you're likely to snap off the part you can grab before it'll spin or slide freely.

I prefer Krall to PB Blaster. WD40 is useless as a penetrant. A 50/50 mix of acetone / ATF is superior to all those (proven in independent testing).

Greg, where did you get that recipe for that penetrant?I would like to try it out in my shop.

hm.. I've never heard of Krall, i may have to look into that. Over the weekend, I was trying to take off one of the wheels on my mom's volvo... and that frekkin wheel felt like it was welded to the hub! PB Blaster wasn't helping that much either
