I cant find a g20 section on here but yall may still be able to help

my dad has a 1993 g20 2.0 dohc 4 cyl

got well over 100k

it is idling rough and has lack of power at low rpm and shakes and misses at high rpm runs great

it has new dist cap rotor plugs n wires

i ran some carb cleaner in the throttle body and it seem to get a lot better

im thinking the IAC valve but it looks like a pain to pull out

so before i dive into this im wondering do i have to pull the intake to get to it?

and how do i go about cleaning the MAF

thanks

The IAC only adjusts the idle up and down. It has nothing to do with a smooth idle so dont worry about it for now. This is just a wild guess but take a look at your MAF connector to make sure it's corrosion-free and fitting tightly on the MAF. The pins after cleaning and adjusting should look like the middle pin in the pic.

Is your check engine light (CEL) on? If not you may want to check fuel pressure. Your fuel pump could be on its way out or the fuel filter could be plugged.

Any problem with the MAF or engine management component would have lit up the CEL. With no CEL the next logical thing to do is check your fuel pressure. You'll need to tee in with a pressure gauge to the inlet fuel hose near the injector rail.
