Post

Hi all -

so I got my 2008 Altima 2.5SL in August 2008. Got it from NJ in FreeHold because wifey's cousin is the manager of DCH FreeHold Nissan.

When I tested it there - the car ran smoothly - but of course NJ has awesome roads. However, when driving it in Bklyn - and the roads are a mess compared to NJ - I feel like the car shifts to one side when taking a slight curve @ 60mph or more on the belt and hittin a bump (that unfortunately cant be avoided). Also, it has snowed quite a bit here this year - but even on an inch or two of snow, i had no control over the car. So bad that @ 15mph I had to pull over to let cars get by me on a regular service road.

I've driven a vw for a while which has a rough feel - but with the alty - i feel like there is no traction whats so ever.

So here is my question - what can I do to improve this? Is it even an option? Would new/bigger tires and rims do the trick? I'm currently on factory rims and tires. The other option I was looking @ is to sell my alty and maybe get the new Maxima

Thanks in advance!

I've heard the same thing as well. My Altima always seemed to handle decent till 2 weekends ago I was driving in a slushy mess and my car was everywhere. I am still on the factory tires as well, and they are a little over 2 years old, so that could have something to do with it. I have read in other threads the factory tires suck to begin with, so yea. A tire change could help. Along with sway bars I suppose. I mean they are made to make the car more still correct? Maybe I should get a pair myself ha.

Factory tires for both the 2.5 and 3.5 are garbage - buing a set of rubber that is somewhat decent will provide you with a much needed upgrade, and should increase your level of comfort on the road.

It all depends on your budget.

Are you planning to stay on the stock 16's?

I got the Michelin Pilot Sport a/s Plus for my 3.5 - got them in a 235/50/17 size on the stock wheel and it's been a whole new car for me. That being said, I paid over $800 to do so....

How much would you look to spend?

Well I would actually like to change the stock rims with something bigger and nicer. However, I'm wondering if that would even improve the traction and handling on the car.

I've had Micehlin on my previous VW and never had issues w them - so I would be willing purchase some Michelin tires. I would set my budget to 1k.

Goodyear F1 All season have been great for me. They last no longer than 10000 miles but they are extremely good on the snow, rain, and specially the track .

I couldnt believe how good the tires were in the snow considering I am running 245/35/19 on the Nismo Maxima wheels.

and you will not go over a grand with those
