Need a little help here...

Im upgrading the RAM in my laptop and am next to incompetent when it comes to this kind of thing. My current set-up is as follows:

1GB DDR2 (512 x 2) PC2-5300

I want to bump it up to a total of 4GB because of some of the DJing programs I use. Ive looked at a few sites and cant really find anything listed as PC2-5300. A quick Google search told me that PC5300 and PC5400 are essentially the same, but they didnt say that PC2-5300 and PC5400 are the same. All the memory packages I see are for PC5400 kits.

Soooooo...am I OK to pop some PC5400 modules into my current PC2-5300 slots?

Nevermind guys/gals, I think I have my answer, and it lies within my ability to please the socket. SODIMM was what I needed, the rest is just hub bub because my comp wont exceed 667 mhZ anyway.

NO.

Laptop are tough.
Some of them have Bios restrictions that don't allow more then 2GBs of ram.
I would do research on your exact model and see if these restrictions actually allow for the amount of RAM.

PC labeled ram is usually DDR ram and PC2 labeled ram is usually DDR2 ram. If your laptop uses DDR ram, it's time for a new laptop. If it uses DDR2 I would start saving up and buy a new machine in the next year or 2.

Some info can be found here:

Here is what you need:

EDIT:
I was 90% done with this post when I saw that you figured it out, so I posted it any way.

I might as well help with shopping:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231135

694 reviews with 5 stars. $55 with free shipping.
This should suit you perfectly.

Ohhhhhhh my bad.

I do know that my comp will take a total of 4GB (2GB x 2) so I figure just go for it. Eventually Ill get around to upgrading and just leave what I have now for DJing here and gut the rest for a desktop. If Im going to load this one up with tons and tons of DJ software and music I need it to be as fast as possible.

Appreciate the help.

EDIT: (as you edited again) thanks for the shopping tip too, but I still have my 2 hour/week shift at Best Buy for just this type o' thang. 5% Above cost? I'll take it!
