My 97 won't play my wife's "Books on CD" and she will not drive the car until I fix this. I've read that this is a problem with a CD player that is 11 years old and brand new CD technology.

I like the way the factory stereo sounds and especially like the ergonomics and simplicity of it-I HATE complex head units and my wife? Well, she doesn't like the rotary preset dial on her Volvo-she wants numbered buttons. That should give you an idea of what her criteria is.

My understanding is that factory Bose shapes the EQ for each car, is this in the amp or the head unit? What happens if you swap the head unit? any bad side effects. All i want is one that will play all CD's. What do you guys think of the unit below?

are they anything goofy, or are they regular CD's.. If so, its weird they wouldnt play it. My Qs have always played burned CDs just fine. Its one thing if its in a goofy format?

Does the car play all other types of CD's??

The EQ is in the amp(s). I dont know if the stock bose in the Y33 has a single amp or individual amps like in the old nissans... Either way i dont really think its a big deal.. You may want to pick up some line drivers to tweak the voltage.

I put an aftermarket HU in my Q and the only complaint I had is the Japanese seizure lights (I dont like light shows when im driving) and it was too quiet.

Only the "Books on CD" don't play, all regular music CD's play and homeburned CD's as well.

good to hear that the EQ is in the amp.

Thanks
