i got a '92 S13

my KA24DE has almost 200K. I thought about getting another KA with a turbo. decided against that. So now its an SR20DET or RB25. my buddys SR is very reliable but id rather have an RB. Any suggestions, advice, or experience with these motors please help.

That's a VERY clean hatch dude. As far as the swap, really it all depends on your budget/goals. Also consider what kind of powerband you'll want. All three motors will be different.

If you have your mind set on a RB, start reading up. It's a little more work than an SR swap.

Check out the SR forum too. Even the KA-T forum.

well money isnt the issue. both motors are relatively inexpensive. i want the RB but im not sure about reliability and how long they run. my buddys Datsun 510 has an SR20DET and its solid as f***. And i own a shop so installation will be on me.

Nice hatch. :bigthumb:

Go with what you can afford and what suits you best. My SR has been running strong for the past 2 years. It's my dd, w/ occasional track.

What I would say to do is get the motor, whichever you want, and strip it down for a rebuild. Get the motor built to the specs you want and just basically go through everything. That's the most important part.

All three motors are known to be reliable. Most will say the KA and SR can take more abuse but many beat on the RB motors all day long with no problem. It's really all about the condition of the motor and the tune. All can make lots of power, but I'm sure the powerband on the RB is nicer than the KA/SR. Really all depends on what you want.

But yeah, rebuild it. Many people just buy a motor in unknown condition, swap it in, then blow it a few months later.

IIRC the 6 speed only came in the GTR so you'd need an AWD transmission. Assuming you don't want to convert to AWD, you're gonna have to settle with the 5 speed.

The only 6 speed you can get in any of those three motors is the S15 Sr20 6 speed.

mhmm go with what you want. They can both be reliable if done right.
