I finally got my engine in putting it all together and everything, midnightsliding help me put it in, and has been taking pictures of it and posting on here for some various things. The guy told me he did a compression test on it but i dont beleive him now. It took so long to fire up, it was turn over but no fire. But before i did all this i lube up the piston, cams, and tried to run the cleaner stuff threw the injectors just incase. We finally got it started up that night, and let it idle for about 10 minutes, smoked real bad the 1st 5 minutes. It sounded nice while idling, and then a loud ticking or knocking noise start, so i cut the engine off and checked the oil, it was full. We cranked it up again and started the 1st time, it didnt tick or knock for the 1st 5 minutes then it started doing it again. So i just let it run this time, and it would quit making the noise for about 3 minutes then do it again for 30 seconds then stop again. Im confused onto what it is. It kinda sounds like someone throwing marbles down on the floor real fast. I talked to a mechanic around here and he said the sound im explaing to him, it coulp be the lifters. So he suggested to go drive it and see it the lifters would get pumped up since it had been sitting for a while, but i havent did that yet. Im scared to take it out of the driveway. So im posting on here askign for some advice for you guys.

I called the guy about it and he told me to put some thicker oil in there, but i think he told me to do that just to quite the noise down, and he told me to drain the oil and check for metal shavings in it. I might make a video of what it is doing and post it on here, iff that would help figuring out the problem.

If worse comes to worse, i might have to buy a longblock from someone iff anybody has one of here, just let me know, thanks for the help

My replies are gone too......... I had a similar problem this morning, and now my motor is blown. I reved it a bit to see if the lifters just needed to be pumped up and suddenly, bang. Motor died.

I'm in the process of taking it apart to see what exactly broke.

Anyone know what size allen key is needed to remove the head bolts? How tough is it to remove the intake manifold with the engine in place?

Thanks

Anyway, my original reply was saying that valve train noise is usually a higher pitched ticking/clacking while failing rod bearings are a deaper knock.

I also warned against running the engine until it's fixed. If it's a failed rod bearing it will only take a short time before the engine seizes. If it was being driven at high rpm then it would cause some serious damage. Anyone else with these symptoms should pull the oil pan and rod bearing caps and inspect the bearings.

Soooo, if the engine was knocking then went BANG and stopped running a rod bearing failed and seized the engine. Once it gets to that point you're probably looking at one tore up rod and one tore up rod journal. Depending on how deep the scratches are on the rod and crank you may still be able to use them after getting them reground. Then again it may be too far gone.
