man, you really shouldn't double post like that , but here it goes again.......

Firstly, you want to run a compression test, its really easy on an sr and if you dont have a buddy with a tester you can buy one at your local auto pars store for under 30 bucks. This will tell you if your rings are burnt.

Its strange the problem only happens at idle, cuz the first thing that i was thinking was turbo. even so, it might be a good idea to pull off you intake pipe and check the play on you turbine (both back an forth and side to side)

Worn out valve guides can also cause you to burn oil, although sr's rarely suffer from this issue.

If its not any of thoes, you may want to rethink the problem, you may just be running rich at idle, it is a very typical issue for sr's. Although i havent seen it produce the amount of smoke to the extent you are describing. and unfortunately theres also a whole mess of components that could cause an sr to run rich.

good luck

no problem. But after you check that turbo, you really should run a compression test.

just keep us posted

It's your turbo. If your rings were bad enough to cause smoke, there would be a constant plume at all rpm.

well i did a compression check today 150 across the board. i think that is normal isnt it. now that i look i kind of think it is burning rich at idle. cause if i raise the idle to like 1500 it wont do it. still havent got to check shaft play cause i need the gasket to check it. any thoughts

I had the same problem with my S14 SR. For me it was my T28. At first it only smoked at idle after i ran the car for a while. The smoke was a whitish blue. Then after a while it began to do it while i was driving. Eventually the smoke became very thick and then the turbo blew.

eh more than likely not it, just throwing it out there.... figured it would be quicker to check than shaft play...... (without the sexual implications)

Check the turbo man. There is a good chance it's the problem. Just unbolt the air intake from the turbo and feel for shaft play. If there is a good amount of shaft play you have found your problem. You shouldn't need a new gasket.

Might just be a little blow by, unless it does it all the time.

Turbo, i had the same problem and a trip to pitt and a 100 dollars later and my car was mint. Blowby really doesnt make it smoke, i had straight up oil in my front mount from blowby and my car wasn't smoking.

The gasket should be fine if you take the inlet pipe off. I took mine off and on about 10 times and the gasket never broke or anything. Although if the gasket were to break you could get a new one from Courtesy for less than $15 shipped.http://www.courtesyparts.com/t..._8692&

well no some more crap happened and i dont know what. the vacum is only at 10 and i think it might be because my turbo went all the way out and broke. it is spuddering and i guess you could say loping really bad. and black smoke is coming out exhaust. not pouring out just coming out steadly. any ideas?
