I've been thinking about getting some major work done to my car. The problem and question I keep asking myself is if it would be worth it for me to do this work or just a waste of money in the longer run. Will I still want the car in 2-5 years? How would it pass SMOG? Should I just pay it off and buy a 370Z, C63 AMG, 325i, GTR (which is ridiculous in maintenance costs) or new Maxima. I'm kind of stuck to my car in mind and heart right now, But what about in 2-5 years? That is the problem I keep facing and asking myself. Do you guys/gals have any advice for me? Lay it on me Brothers and Sisters.

wtf Ricky. All 4 of those cars are in crazy different price brackets. I mean, if you can afford an 80,000 dollar GTR or AMG, I don't see what the problem is

+1 - if you have the money for those cars, what is the dilemma?

I guess it all depends on what you would really like. If it's a one-of-a-kind-crazy-modded-out Altima Coupe, then start dropping the $$ into it and be happy with it. Or, save your money, and get something a few leagues up from the AC.

Personally, I'm using my AC to help save up for one of those cars. I know I've put some $$ into my AC, but I think it's to the point now to hold me over (would love more power, but it'll do ). I go through a lot of cars (I've owned more cars than years I've been driving), and they've been getting progressively nicer and more expensive as I go (with the exception of going from the 350z to the AC, but I'll consider it at least a parallel). And, I've made the decision that I'm going to keep my AC until I can afford a car in the $60k - $80k range. It's still a little ways out there, but it's definitely do-able, and I like setting goals like that. I love my AC, but at this point I'd rather save my money for some crazy *** car than put a lot more money into the AC, and not have a chance to have one of those other cars. Thank goodness the AC is a nice and fun car, or I probably wouldn't have the patience to wait

Haha, that probably didn't help you with your decision at all..

Very TRUE dude. I'm looking into the future and I have Med school coming up in the next year or so. MED school is expensive. I know that it's in the bases of 200K plus. I do have the money to pay off my car and buy one of the ones I mentioned cash, but like I have said I'm looking toward to the future and the maintenance of those cars. The GTR has a FREAKEN blackbox connected to nissan for crying out loud that is Ridiculous. All maintenance had to be done by a nissan dealer or else the warranty is VOID. I'm not sure if you guys see my point

I hear ya. I've been following the Edmunds long-term road test of the GT-R, and I must admit it has turned me off a little. It sounds like an insane (ly awesome) piece of machinery, but they've had quite a few issues with it. Not sure I'd want to drop that much money on a car, and then spend thousands more just to keep it running. Then again.. If I could afford the GT-R to begin with, I'd make sure I had enough in reserves for the issues. Aw heck, if I had the money right now, I'd definitely buy one! I love Nissan's ingenuity and technology, and all that crammed into a car like the GT-R, well.. that's pretty much this geek's dream

I have a friend at the dealer that's a sales and fnance manager. He can give me the GTRfor MSRP and they would pay Tax and License. I then talked to my other friend who is a service manager and the stuff he told me about the car is ridiculous. Service for oil changes costs $350. Trasmission service every 10k miles costs 5K and you also have to change ALL the tires every 10k miles that's another 5K. When your front or rear brakes need to be changed you need to change ALL brakes. He told me dude just keep your Altima. The cost of ownership is KRAZY. At the end I feel that I should just pay the car off and do the MODs I have in mind. Does it seem like a smart Idea? I have to go ook atthe 370Z as well, Just to look. .

Dang that's ("KRAZY", haha) expensive. After a few years you may have well just bought a $120k car, lol. Of course, a modded AC, or even 370z for that matter, will be in a league totally different than a GT-R (and not for the better). But.. it would sure save you a lot of money. Of course, the GT-R isn't your only choice for a sweet car in that price range either (like your mentioned AMG).

I don't know dude.. I'm not being much of a help. Some other people need to chime in with their own opinions, but I have a feeling it'll come down to whatever you're most comfortable with financially and what you'll be most happy with. (Too bad those two things don't usually go hand-in-hand, and thus the underlying reason of your post to begin with, I'd imagine.)
