ok a while back my ka24e started a horrific knocking sound, back in september, and when it started i pulled over and had the car towed home. it has not run since. after taking my time (due to long hours i work) on taking apart the engine step by step from a nissan factory shop manuel, i have come to the crank shaft and noticed that half a berring is missing for the rod on cylindar #3. everything else was in pretty good condition for havin 171k on the engine. well it looks like i could just get new berrings for the crank, and all the nessicary gaskets, including head gasket, and have my 240 running in less than a week. there appears to be no damage to any of the bottom end, except for the fact that cylindar #3 is missing half a berring. i would like to know if i should go ahead and replace the crankshaft or is it fine? and while i have the block torn apart what other parts should i replace? i know im going to replace the oil pump. please keep in mind i have a very limited budget, working at mcdonalds to pay for my car, insurance, and college makes for a damn tight budget.

Sorry I had to move your thread Zeardux, but it should be in the all motor section since it only pertains to rebuilding the block.

But I also have a suggestion. I know you have the motor out already. So why don't you grab a used KA24E from the junkyard and be done with it.

With a rod bearing bouncing around inside your bloch there could be all kinds of hairline cracks and scratches.

I wouldn't risk doing all the work just to have a meltdown at a later date.

I agree. Unless you are planning to have the block worked, then there is no reason to risk a breakdown later on when you already have the motor out...

see the thing is, i found all the piece of the berring, it dident bounce around, it basicly disentigrated, its was in like 8 million pieces, so i doubt it could have dameged anything very badly. but i was planning on rebuilding the block and the junkyard around me want 1300 for an engine with 160k!! thats f****** ridicoulus, plus i would have to pay for it to get installed cuz i dont have all the tools required to put a complete engine assembly in myself, so that would be another 600, plus my car would have to get towed, that would be another 30 bucks per mile, i dont have that kinda cash. it would take me almost 3 months to do that, i was looking for a cheap solution.

That motor is on ebay right now there is someone with a ka24e transmission so look for that because he is selling the engine too. Also did you check the classifieds from this site. If your bearings were in a million parts i can almost garuntee that metal shavings were being circulated through the engine.

if u rebuild it u will need either a new crank or an oversized bearing. U might as well ghange them all

Man just get a new KA24de, Less of a headache. I agree with the shavings, and cracks, just cuz you cant see em doesn't mean there not there. you can get an engine for about 500 + shipping. I feel your pain, I worked at McDonalds too. Sh** for pay, too much work. Good Luck.
