I have 2 subs and an amp hooked up on my 1998 Q45t. I have the stock bose system still so I had to tap into the rear speakers with a Line Output Converter. However, with the LOC hooked up the speakers sound like crap plus there is major engine whine in the speakers as I accelerate. I know the whine is probably related to grounding issues, but my real question is, is there a way to make the speakers sound better cause now they sound about 1/50th as good as they did in my old car. I know its not the amp or the speakers cause i have had the same pair for a few years. If there is no way to make the sound better, my second question is Should i get an aftermarket deck with RCA outputs? If i do get an aftermarket deck, do I have to replace any of the bose speakers or wiring, or will it work fine with the current speakers in the car? I know its a lot of questions so please bare with me im a noob to the Q45t im used to the plug and play type of installations. I really appreciate any help.

You could get an aftermarket headunit, and add a bose input converter behind the deck it inegrate the factory speakers and amps, this will solve your input and quality issues with the input to your sub amplifier, because then you could use a nice set of RCA's straight from the deck to your sub amp. However if I were you, I'd add another 4 channel amp that matches the sub amp and replace the interior full range speakers too. If you are going go though the trouble of replacing the deck, and hooking up a sub. Plus then you wouldn't have to use any crappy adapters that usuall fail at some point causing more headaches.

Where exactly did you tap into the wires? The wire that runs from the Bose HU to the rear parcel shelf is not speaker level, but the wire that goes from the piggyback amp on the speaker to the speaker itself is.

Check to see if you're tapped in before or after the speakers amp.

Good thinking Rex I didn't think of that since I wasn't staring into his trunk at the install, this could be why there is such a problem with noise. If however the system is connected to the correct output wires from the piggyback amps it could still be wired out of phase, and pumping out low quality, low output whinning bass instead of the sound characteristics that he is used to with this setup.

Thanks for the replies guys. Well, I tapped into the rear speakers right where the wire has the big white plug that plugs into the speaker. I took it from right before that plug on each rear speaker, is this the correct location? Also, any idea on how much or where to get that Bose audio converter you were talking about. Thanks.

I'd have to see a picture of the plug near your connection, but does it have four wires in it? If it does then you tapped from the input to the factory amp, and not the outputs to the rear 6X9s.As far as the adapters go several companies make them the most reliable that I have used is mad be peripheral electronics. Here are some links.http://peripheralelectronics.com/web/loc.asp look for SVEN4 & SVHNI1

Have fun.

Yea it was a plug that had 4 wires in it, i picked 2 (green with a blue/yellow stripe i think) and they worked in terms of turning the speakers on to the beat, but they were extremely low power and had the whinning noise. Each plug was connected directly to the 6x9's, is there wires after these that I was supposed to hook it up too? Thanks again.

If you take apart the black box on the underside of the speaker you can get to the output wires of the amp which will be higher voltage and probably give much less whine. Try to observe polarity of the outputs by noting which wire plu on to the larger terminal of the speaker these are usaully the positive terminals, the smaller one is the negative. But this signal is also eq'd specifically for the bose 6X9 characteristics. This may not provide the best sound from the sub when amplified.
