I'm looking for information on swapping over my standard antenna on my kouki for a power antenna. Has anyone done this before on their 97-98 s14?? I know '95 s14's came with a power antenna and I was hoping someone would have some information on swapping the antenna, what parts are needed and installation tips. Thanks guys!

I definitely agree. I feel like I should be waving a checkered flag on my antenna or something. Would definitely love a power antenna.

well, the only thing about a power antenna is that is probably going to be alot thicker than the stock one...but if you'll have it down the majority of the time, then that'd be fine.

if i had it, i would want it to only come up if i turn on the FM radio...not just when I turned on the car or headunit.

off your radio, you'll see a wire for power antenna. you'll need to use that to trigger your new power antenna assembly. Then all it needs is power, the normal antenna plug that would be running from your standard antenna anyway and a ground. The power should be off your radio harness as well, the ground can be localized with a wire brush and self tapping screw or by tethering it down to a bolt nearby. The part that might be a pita is the chrome colored ring that sits at the top of the antenna assembly. I used robogrips when setting up new antennas for an easier time.

Just out of pure curiosity, why not delete your antenna? remove it, have the body work done, paint matched, wala no more antenna, and get one from the inside of the car or some other way, I think no visible antenna = better than any, oh well just curious.

yeah, but i would ALWAYS have my radio on, so wouldn't that mean the antenna would always be up whenever i'm driving?

yeah that's the part that sucks about it. if you've got the radio on, then yeah the antenna will always go up when you start up the car. They do have internal antennas, but their sensitivity is garbage and the cost of getting a hole in the body work patched up doesn't make it cost effective either.

The power antenna isn't really that big. Although if it gets cold where you are they do get stuck randomly. Mine got stuck halfway up so the reception sucked and it was up when the car was off. Don't do an antenna delete if you always listen to the radio, and who cares what it looks like while your driving, it doesn't ruin the lines of your car

you can use a silicone based cleaner to clean the mast of the antenna to keep the mast from sticking and getting that horrible grinding sound you'll occasionally get or from sticking too much.

You could always throw a switch on the wire coming off the headunit to the antenna somewhere by the driver seat. That way, you could have the power antenna go up only when you want it to...

It can't be that much current to need a big switch either. Then you'd have the best of both worlds.

Personally, I have a shaved antenna, and I use XM for my radio/talk/traffic needs.

insulting me probably isn't the best 1st post you could make.

and if you knew what a 240 antenna even remotely looked like, you know i would have to photoshop all of my interior and rear window in that shot.
