so i just got my car all sorted out with my water pump, or so i thought. wel now i have a weird little issue, when i shift sometimes from 1st to 2nd and 2nd into 3rd and rarely from 3rd to 4th my rpms will stay up no matter the rpm range i shift at. my car also sometimes idels at like 2 grand too high right. it makes for some uncomfortablr driving. my initial thought was my throtte cable is sticking but i looked at it and it seemed to be fine but i really dont know what a proper working one looks like. should the cable be tight or have a little slack or bend to it? i dunno. also when i was doing the water pump the throttle body looked a bit off, should that make a 90 degree angle with the wings and the body its self or is it okay if its at a slight angle?

Sounds like you may have answered your own question. I don't know exactly what you mean by the throttle body looking a bit "off", but the butterfly should be predominantly closed when idling. If it has excessive gap, there's your higher idling problem. Do you have cruise control?

You sure you don't have a vacuum leak at your throttle body?

how would i go about checking vaccume leaks. also i did put in a new water pump and took off my intake should i double check my intake to make sure all of the hoses are snug. could those have an effect on idle.

Start the car, spray some kinda brake clean, carb cleaner, something near the manifold, throttle body, and piping.... if you hear it change speed, or bog you have a leak.

Then check injectors, use MAF CLEAN to clean the MAF... ONLY MAF CLEAN. check connectors, and check for codes.
