i had such great luck finding full color step by step help on a toyota site that i tackled much more complicated jobs than i had done before. now it's time to work on my 1994 nissan altima. front oil seal is a mess. i feel pretty good about doing it after searching the forum. but, no pics.. and step by step seems to skip steps as if we would all know how to do it. maybe i need a car club with people that can show me stuff in person. i read that putting the car in drive(?) would work to remove the pulley bolt. on my toyota i pulled the starter to access the flywheel, and held the flywheel in place with a large screwdriver to torque the pulley bolt on. so, without these answers, i'm kind of stuck. the haynes manual seems lacking on these specific points. so if anyone wants to star in their own car care clinic, i'll support your threads.

Most stuff for the engine will be cross-applicable to the 240sx, in which case there's a ton of good how-tos at www.240sxtech.com

Welcome aboard!

well, i'm stuck. the crankshaft pulley bolt is not coming off. so, i want to prevent it from turning by blocking the flywheel. but, the access to the flywheel is blocked by the transmission support. i tried removing it but the rubber transmission mounts would not give and i stripped a nut. so i'm thinking that removing the starter would give access to the flywheel, allowing me to jam a big screwdriver in and prevent the flywheel from turning. any thoughts?

Best option - air impact wrench.

Screwdriver won't be enough. I've used a breaker bar, though. Put a socket on two of the flywheel bolts (helps if someone holds them in place) and place a long breaker bar across them to prevent rotation of the flywheel.

Long breaker bar on the crank pulley bolt, a good sharp crank, and it should loosen.
