I'm looking for the best direct fit cats for my 2001 Pathfinder. I've found that some of these replacement units fail pretty quickly; any recommendations for a quality part?

I used some Walkers (16343 and 16344) that I bought on Amazon 2-3 years ago and haven't had any problems. I think Magnaflow and Bosal make cats for us too, and they're pretty reputable brands from what I hear.

They'll all fail regardless if you don't address the source, though, so make sure you've identified why they went bad. They don't go bad on their own :chuckle:

I am new to the forum, thanks for all the great information! It seems like my cats need to be replaced every three years or so, and at $1500 a pop makes me think about getting rid of my 2001 QX4, ~184K. So, the post by atraudes caught my attention when he states that cats don't go bad on their own. Can someone elaborate?

Thank you.

Anything that would cause unburned fuel through the exhaust can cause the cats to run hotter than they should and/or contaminate them. But, $1500 for a set of cats for your QX!? Must be the dealer? Go to an indy shop if needed again. I have a $900 receipt from the prior owner for the PF I just bought and I thought that was too much. They bolt on fairly easily.

It is a Firestone shop. It has happened to me once or twice before and it has always been $1500 regardless of where I take it too. It seems to be a real shake down. Thanks for the insight. I will look for someone who may be able to replace the Cats AND determine the cause. Thanks PathyPop!

Agree with atraudes: They don't go bad on their own. If they are failing every 3 years or so, then you have another problem.
I still have the originals on my 2002 Pathfinder. Over 300,000 Kms and no issues.
