I changed my mind I'm getting

clevite main and rod bearingsarp main studseagle rodsCP pistons 87mm bore 9.0/1Tomei metal headgasket 1.2mm

Now If I get the 87mm pistons obviously I need to bore the block, but what size headgasket do I go with? 87 or 88mm?

Those are all really decent parts, I'm running a very similar setup for internals, with a 2871R @ 21psi several weekends a month at the track...It takes some serious abuse and loves every second of it. If your going to be keeping the rpm's up I would recommend investing in a ATI super-damper. Well I kinda changed my mind on the mahle pistons after reading the review thread and the issue with the oil squirters.

I know this is a noob question, but what is the stock cylinder bore for the sr? 86mm?

I don't see any companies selling a 86mm piston only 86.5 so does that mean i need my block bored for them to fit

The Clevites will work.

I believe the bore size is 86mm? Check that information in the FSM or search it up.

The reason many after market companies sell oversized pistons, is because you can usually oversize the cylinders by .5mm without issues, sometimes more assuming your block and cylinders is in the condition to do so.

Also, if you tear down your engine, sometimes your walls are out of spec and it's recommended that you oversize it so that you can realign it.

86mm is stock....My CP pistons required a over bore, but other then that they were drop in, even the rings were in spec out of the box

240life do you roughly remember how much your machine shop bill costed? I don't know of many machine shops around here or how much they would charge to bore the cylinders

I think with the Hot Tank, Bore and rotating assembly balance my bill was around $300, so about $150 for the bore.

Generally get a headgasket that matches the bore size. So you'll want the 87mm one.

with 87 mm pistons you want a 87.5mm hg or 88mm you want it a lil over stock so when the head seats it pushes the hg out and if you use same bore your pistons will hit the HG. We offer a 2.2L Stroker kit https://www.z1motorsports.com/...s=2.2for $2850.00

Really sean? I've always been told to keep it at bore or close to it.

Yeah thats why I wasn't sure.. I don't recall seeing any metal headgaskets coming in 87.5 Only 87 or 88.

Now my final decision. I found someone with a sr short block, 87mm cp pistons, eagle rods, acl bearings, arp main and head studs.Hot tanked, bored, honed, decked, etc.Used with 750miles garunteed running good conditon, so I'll hopefully be picking that up this weekend and go from there
