Hey guys..Today I got offered a deal..Dont know if I should pass it up...

My friend is hooking me up with Rc550cc injectors and a fuel rail for 120$and another friend wants to trade his turbo for my racing seats...He is also giving me 150$..I bought my seats off ebay...Non-name brand who cares..It gets the Job done..Ayways...His turbo says Garrett..i dont know what car it come fromm....I know that it is bigger than my friends t25 and the AR says sometime like 47 or 48...I think it might be a t28 size...Unsure...Should I go for it..Oh yea PS..the turbo is locked up...Could I possiblely salvage this turbo and rebuild it? JW...Thanks for the input in advance. Also Does anyone have any setups using stock turbos?

Some turbo's you can salvage some you can't--as long as you can rebuild the turbo it would be a good deal.

i'd pass. it sounds like you'd be trading for a paper weight and not a turbo. if it was at least rebuildable, why's he giving you $150 on top of the trade?

I just rebuilt my gtir t28, the insides of these turbos are not that complicated. Either the oil in them burned to the point that the journal bearings are caked and totally locked, or a snap-ring broke and lodged it's self into a bearing. The worst would be the turbo came unbalanced. The impeller shaft would have ground it's way through the bearings, and the turbine and compressor fins would have eaten their way through their respective housings and possibly fused.

Your either buying a paper weight, or a turbo that needs to be soaked in parts cleaner and rebuilt.

Ask him to spray carb-cleaner into the oil inlet and let it soak over night. If it's free in the morning and the side to side shaft play is minimal, go for it. It will still likely need a rebuild. The kits are on ebay for about 50 bucks. It's fun to do.

PS I'll post the rebuild write up soon, just need to format the post and organize my pictures.
