So i am not a complete noob with KA24det. I have had one for about 3 years now, 2 s13's and 3 motors later i am finally going to rebuild. My current set up now is working beautifully but i have an extra motor and really want to up the power. current set up:

safc, z32 blow through maf, gt28, fmic, apexi avr.

Here is my plan of attack. I want the motor to be ready to drop in this spring. I dont have much money so here is what i want to do and i hope that it will work out.

Stock rebuild, stock pistons, 9.2:1 compression, stage 2 cams. bigger injectors and a good ecu tune. Im looking to do 15psi without worry and possible 18 or so when racing. Does this sound like it should hold up for a few years with these power goals.. I dont want to go to crazy their is plenty of time for that in the future. Thanks for reading and your input.

You never really mentioned your power goals. 18 psi on a GT28R is in it's efficiency range, but near the top of it. Also, it's ball bearing, meaning it needs oil AND water to cool it, so you will have to fab up water lines.

A stock rebuild is good, you shouldn't have any problems with the engine if you rebuild it correctly. You might want to get a new oem oil pump and timing chain kit, I'm not sure if you were including them in your rebuild.

I say you go top mount t3/t4. You can run a smaller t3 and have the same spool characteristics of a t2, and most of them only require oil so water is something you don't have to worry about. The JGS kit is a great starter kit and come with a downpipe and dump tube. I recommend it.

As far as tuning goes, you have a few options. You can get Nistune, which uses your stock ecu but acts like a standalone, and you can get an ECU tune like you mentioned. ECU tunes are easier because they are plug and play, but to get the most out of it you would want to fine tune it with your SAFC. Nistune requires you to get a basemap then drive to a tuning shop and pay them to tune it, on top of the cost of Nistune itself.

I have an EFI Specialist tune and it runs great. I don't have an SAFC to fine tune, but my AFR's are right where they should be.

If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

It's all in the tune... Nistune, EFI Spec., Enthalpy, JWT (probably being the safest as his tunes run the richest)

If you get a rock solid tune with a good margin of safety, it will last a long time-

Detonation easily kills stock engines so as long as you can avoid it you're golden on a stock rebuild

+1 for going T3, I wouldn't trust any T2 over 15psi to be safe for long

I have a buddy with a gt28r running 22psi daily driver for like 8 months now!! Me myself dont really need that much but figured i would throw out that his seams ok. Thanks for the input
