1) that specific ebay link didn't work for me. 2) I would NEVER buy an engine or motorset off of ebay. That's just me, but I've heard too many horror stories about purchasing engines off of ebay. I know I've just generalized every ebay company, but I'd rather go with a shop of high reputation.

Short block is just the bottem end(block, crank, rods, pistons, and sometimes the oilpump and pan). Long block is everything above plus the complete head minus manifolds and electronics.

As for which one is better it all depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Eric at eric's performance parts is a good dude. Ive spent tons of money thru him and have never had any problems.

thats a little ridiculous, you can buy a stock manufactured 2jzgte with getrag 6 speed for 4500 at a toyota dealer.

This is my first post here on NICOclub, I just started my R34 project this year . I've been on eBay religiously looking for parts and I happen to stumble across this...

What do you guys think? Yes its a good substitute or no its not ? Would you say its just as good as the engine in the NISSAN SKYLINE GT-R V SPEC II NUR?

Thanks for your help/opinions.
pics of your r34?

- Avoid shops! overpriced!!! the RB series are great, but sourcing parts can be tiring... stick with the usdm 2jz. for real.

- if your doing a R series... do a real one... save up and get it, without the motor even.

- and yes It is the supra engine, and its not hard to install. just ask. forum members are doing it weekly in the hybrid section.

PLEASE dont spend too much money. we're here for you, and if you can weld, your saving thousands.

so let me get this straight... you are 21 and just bought a what, ~30-40k SHELL r34, and are still clicking around ebay looking for a motor. mind if i ask what you do?

that aside, i've got to hand it to you.. props to you for taking the plunge. if you are indeed doing this, contact tomei, mines or nissan japan and order their built crate motors. overnight it from japan F&F style and get vin diesel to drop it in for you. r34 is a big budget car, and even bigger budget for the states, so you need to open your wallet (or dad's) like there is no tomorrow.

i have seen your friend's brother's r34 before. it is nice, but 78k for a non-fed gtr is a big risk and a huge tab he put on his dad's CC, so now is probably a good time to get rid of it before it gets seized.

kaizo is the way to go for a legal car, so at least you're doing that right.

sorry get your facts straight. i made an agreement with my parents that if i keep my full ride to UVA and maintain above 3.5 GPA then whatever money i save them they let me pocket it for myself.

dont put me on that level with those little kids who complain to their mommy and daddy and cry until they get what they want.

an a$$*** like yourself would never understand what it means to work for something...and you know what if your older then me i'd expect better judgment and word choice from someone your age if not your got some growing up to do little boy.

this is the exact reason why i dont like posting sh** is because of ppl like you.

in the future learn to ask before you judge someone, ask them for their story...and oh yeah about mines...

full ride to UVA under the jefferson scholarship. graduating this spring with cumulative GPA of 3.8 in biology something you could never achieve.

so basically you confirmed my assumption about the whereabouts of your funds. that is fine, so basically you have a budget of $120k (30k/year x 4) and awesome parents. with that you should be able to have an r34 with a crate motor, and be able to pay a local shop (MA or JEI) to do the work for you. don't shop on ebay for parts. talk to the sources to get the best (and trustworthy) price.

all i was saying earlier is that an r34 is a big money car.. geez i apologize if it struck a nerve

Quit being a cheapskate, and ebay motorsets are shady to begin with.

I would stick an LS6 in it.

i would definitely not do a bastard engine swap on an r34 gt-r. waste of it's awd and a capable motor. ls6 on a r34 gts is nice though

it's for an r34 !!! not a 240sx or something else .

it's like taking the R out of gtr .. i know th 2jz is a very good engine but you dont put a jz in a skyline nor a rb in a mk4 (like topsecret did )

that's my thought !!!

that is fine because an r32 sedan is not a gt-r.

i'm not opposed to mixing manufacturers, but tossing a decently sophisticated awd system that can handle a lot of power and handle well for it's time (gt-r) to go rwd w/ a 2jz is a waste in my opinion. especially in an r34 gt-r. a car isn't only about the motor. gt-r is great because it is a good motor paired with a good way to put power to the ground. sure 2jz is arguably better as a motor.

if it's an r32 sedan, then by all means go for it. not much different than a 240 IMO. if it is that gts-4 or whatever i'd consider keeping that awd too if it were me.
