I'm looking for a Datsun 2000 and found this within an hour away and would like your input. The ad states the following:

68 Datsun 2000 Roadster convertible. Car does run and drive, solid body 4cyl ford with auto trans. Good title.

$1950. obo.

Contacted the seller and the car doesn't run and has been sitting out in the open for a while with no soft top. Here are the pictures:










Is this worth purchasing? Rust looks extensive(floor is gone) not to mention many parts are missing. Really appreciate it

That seems like a lot to me. But I'm not a "Datsun guy". Have you looked at comparables in your locale? That's the only way to really assess anything. Unless you're willing to have something towed/shipped to you that is. Those are so sexy when they're restored. Best of luck finding a good one. Saving old Datsun's is a very good cause.

That is not a real 2000.

In the interior that looks like an automatic transmission. 2000's have 5 speeds.

In the engine compartment that is not a U20 engine. A U20 has intake & exhaust on the drivers side. Intake has 2xSU -or- 2xSolex Carbs.

The body looks decent (check for bondo in weird places). You can expect bondo & rust in the wheel wells (thats normal for old roadsters that have not been rebuilt).
The interior looks wretched. The chrome that can be seen looks good.

Your costs will be drivetrain (what engine is that?) and interior.

It's worth up to 1,500 tops. I would offer 1,000.
