Okay as some of you know I'm in the process of swaping in an S14 SR20DET. Anyway I need to get an oil pan but I was wondering if any of you guys have had any problems with the OEM oil pans and road courses. Did Nissan engineer it well enough to with stand the abuse of road racing or is it crap when it comes to that?

Thanks....

Seth :)

Seth,

I am currently in the part collection phase of an SR20DET swap. I am having the swap done at a shop in Costa Mesa, by a guy who works on race cars on crazy 'street' cars (twin-turbo Lamborghini's for example). He suggested that I get a Greddy oilpan, and after the suggestion.. I did some research here on the Greddy unit, and people who are into road racing seem to concur that it is a good upgrade.

My mechanic's perspective, and I tend to agree with him is, the stock oilpan only holds 3-4 quarts of oil. That's not much oil, especially when you're dealing with things like g-forces around sweeping corners, and liquid getting pushed from one side of the pan to the other. The Greddy pan is baffled, which pretty much ensures that the oil pickup always has a deep well to draw from, even when corning.

plus the pick up is very close to the bottom of the pan on the stocker, hit a corner too tight you can dent it and blow the motor without even knowing

While i have the attention of the big 3, let me ask something.

I have seen several posts stating that the oil pan can not be removed without jacking up the motor, or taking down the cross memeber. I have seen several posts to the contrary.

I had the car up on a lift the other day.. it looked to me like the cross member came close, but that the pan would just drop strait down. Could you guys clear this up for me for good?

Thanks,

Joe

ha ha ha.. lol....

actually, that is my buddy Jeremy's hands, that f'er can reach anything in the engine bay, he is blessed with mechanics hands... my hands are short and stubby and cant reach anything =)

Joe, I put on my pan while the engine was out so I cant comment on that.

Use a lift, you can swap the oil pan with the car just lifted...I dont use 'jacks' so i wouldnt recommend it, since laying on your back is a *****....Just use a lift, it wont take you more than an hour or so. Nothing has to be lifted or dropped.

and the greddy pan says sr20...which we all know is pimp ; )

Since we are on the pan, I was wondering after the new pan is on, how much oil is needed for the engine. If there is more oil can you change the oil every 4,000 instead of every 3,000 or so. Since the pan is bigger is it more likley to hit if the car has been lowered. Questions, Questions, Questions

Thanks

the pan holds about an extra quart of oil....i dont know about changing it less....the pan doesnt really sit much lower....it lines up perfectly with the lower bar, so it doesnt hang lower than that, its about even.

ps, i dont think its possible to dent the greddy pan, i think it would crack before denting.

Okay okay I called back and changed my order and upgraded to the Greddy oil pan. Geez no need to beat a guy to death for a freraking oil pan :pface

s14det....I know that even with an extra quart of oil I really would not feel comfortable stretching out the life of the oil. Changing the oil is a whole lot cheaper than changing the SR itself. Besides I would recommend changing your oil every 2000 miles at the most! Just me....

And Nils did I ever metion that I f**king love your Supra in your sig? Do you still have it or have you sold it?

Hey.. jus got a blk top swap recently and thinking of upgrading to a greddy oil pan. Can you guys recommend me a place to order it from for cheap? btw, how much does the stock oil pan on the sr20 hold? Is it 3.5 quarts? So the greddy would need 4.5?

So just to make sure, the greddy oilpan will fit all SR generations, right? It would make sense, but phase 2 only advertises it for s13. I guess I'll call them, 'cause I wanna know whether I can get Power Enterprise belts for my s14 too.
