Like the title says, im trying to get some newer info on engine swaps.. just about every forum that pulls up is 5 years or older...

I have a 1996 240sx, auto to manual swap, brand new suspension, hks exhaust, z32 front brakes, 350z wheels. The car is a daily driver so im looking for something more on the reliable side, but something I can have insane fun in. Im in the process of saving for an engine swap and I cant choose between these 4 motors.. sr20, rb25det, rb26det, 2jz..
I guess we could toss a ls1 onto the list just for laughs?

I know cost, reliability, parts availability sways certain aspects in each engines favor.. So, question is, do you guys have info on what each of these swapd would cost if done today, what are the parts availabilities looking like, and overall which swap would be best? Any other Info would be appreciated as well.

Hey there! Out of all the engines you chose, plan on building it from the ground up to do it right the 1st time. Most of these engines are very old and "rarely" do you see a S13 Sr20det, Rb25, RB26 in mint condition.

Be very careful where you are getting your engines from. Having "good Compression" and shining up your engine doesn't mean jack when your bearings are shot. The last Tsunami destroyed a lot of cars so try to get your engine directly from Australia, Canada or right here in the good ole USA.

There really isn't a "Price List" for each swap. You have to get into the swap.

Going RB?? Plan on eating Roman Noodles and Peanut Butter for awhile.

Sr20, LS1, KA are probably your best options as far as reliability and cost. Do some more research before you get into the project.

Remember these 3 because you only can have 2.

Reliable, Fast, Cheap.

I appreciate the info, im just back and forth between what I want to get, it will most likely be a ls1 or s14 black sr20. I plan on doing a rebuild before I swap as well. I keep coming up with other things to do to the car and im struggling not to spend the money I have saved right now lol

Thinking about looking into digital climate control, finishing my brake upgrade with the rear set and bmc..
