How old are your headlight lens.........road dirt and pits/scratches? can cut light by 30-50% no matter what bulbs you use.

Polish the crap out of the headlight lenses, especially the driving lights. Take them off the car, or tape up the paint so you don't burn the paint. Use some scratch-X or rubbing compound with a high speed buffer. It does make a difference.

I put off road high wattage bulbs in both the low-beams and high-beam sockets in Layla. They are not DOT approved and illegal, but I need the extra light for the offorading I do . I also put off-road 85 watt bulbs in the driving lights, to help at night. The driving lights seem to be the only wones that bother oncoming traffic. I turn them off, unless I am by myself. I used the cheap PlasmaGlow bulbs for the driving lights. The only problem is that they do not last as long as the stock lights. I replace a bulb about every 4 months. I don't recommend this method.

I have Sylvania SilverStars in the low/high beams of the Corvette. The light is much better than stock, but still lower than HID or the Xenons in the I30t. $80 for the low/high beams and $20 for the driving lights. Sylvania has a $5 mail-in rebate now(be sure to snag 2 rebate coupons - one for the lows and one for the highs). Only 2 rebates per household. This is a nice upgrade for the money.

I have silverstars and they really helped, and i also cranked up my headlights a little (not so much that they point way up, just enough that it illuminates farther down the road) and that really helped.

New bulbs and a clean lens will make a world of difference.

Polish and Sylvania Superstars is a good start.

Exactly, and the G50 has glass lenses.

Finish with armoring from http://www.stongard.com to protect and preserve.

I have Silverstars as well and I think it was worth the dough. But of course I had polished the lenses as I would with any older car.

Do you take apart the whole assembly and polish inside as well as out? Or, is it only necessary to polish the outside?

Do you use Meguiar's PlastX, or some other product?

Having personal experience in producing optical lenses from glass, let me say, doing it manually would be a very long and laborious task.

In the optical world we used Cerium oxide in the polishing process, but I think it would be hard to accomplish the process we used.
