my car has decided it no longer wants to start or run and the master tech at nissan diagnosed it to being the CAS. I tried another CAS that sean (NeedCAforS13) let me use off his not-yet-swapped car and the car didnt respond any better. So if anyone has a known working CAS that they wouldn't mind letting go of for a reasonable price please email me or respond. Nissan wants $400 for one so there is no way im doing that. If you are in FL that would be even better. Thanks for all your help in advance,Mike

that seems to be some other people's opinion too...paul said that the car won't start if the CAS isn't working....maybe a coilpack? the Nissan tech that did diagnostic on it said there was no spark to the first cylinder, and he said it was either CAS or ignitor....they had a working ignitor to test out, and it didn't fix it....so they say its the CAS...

any other ideas about what it might be?

Sean

i have my doubts with his diagnosis as well but the only real way to test out if that is they problem is to have another working CAS.

I have about 9 of them and I know 8 eight of them work. So if you need one let me know. Be wary of ground wires that maybe hidden or severed as they can cause this problem as well. What is the car doing??

ok tite, definately let me know when it come in, that way if it works i can drive my car back to my dorm and then boostboy i will definately need one. as for what the car is doing:i was driving then the car started studdering (felt like it did when my mafs was crapping out) and then it died and would not start back up. I messed with the MAFS wires (mine arent connected all that well) and that didnt help so i messed with the fuel pump relay and harness (another reoccuring problem in my car is moisture gets in the fuel pump harness and causes the car to stall when at idle). the car would run but rather poorly when i dissconnect the fuel pump but would not start at all when all the fuel components were hooked up. My plugs were really fouled so i thought as a long shot that maybe changing them would help but it didnt. right now if i try to start it sometimes it will start and run really really ruff spitting out black smoke that smells like fuel. apparently after i left it overnight at nissan it started up first try and they were able to drive it into the bay where it died again. like i said earlier the nissan master tech thinks its the CAS since its not getting a spark and he tried another working ignitor chip to no avail.

You have your SAFC hooked up? If so Check your RPM, If its reading 0 the CAS is junk. My Rb has the same problem, the connection to the CAS is piss poor so it likes to cut out and the car will crap out and read no RPM.

Run a diagnostic check on the ecu and if it's the CAS, it will flash codes 11, 34 and sometimes 13 as well. Usually when the CAS fails, it drags down the rest of the system responsible for failsafe features. And then again, it could be the spline on the end of the exhaust cam that drives the CAS. Too many possibilities and mostly involving electrical issues.
