Post

Just purchased a 1999 i30, and BIG THANKS to this forum, I have been able to fix a couple of thing on the car such as restting the Air bag Lights, replaicng High Break Lights Buld and host of others.

My queston is this; the car came only with one key, no remote, just one key. I would like to get a keyless remote and additional keys, but I am not sure where to begin. How do I know what keys to purchase, even if I figure that out, how do I know it will work with my car? How do I confirm that whatever computer in the car that contols the romote entry still works etc.

I am just a newbie trying not to spend much on the car and since I am a do it yourself kinda guy, I would like to explore this route.

Thanks in advance.

Someone on here with a '99 should be able to give you the FCC code off the back of their remote. As for the remote system working, they don't usually have problems.

Thanks MattB,

So all I need is the FCC Code, then I can use the code to purchase keyset from any online store? What about cutting a new keys, how does that work?

Yeah once you have the correct FCC code you can figure out which Infiniti remote you need. I recommend looking on eBay or in the classifieds section of this forum, remotes are expensive new. As far as cutting new keys, I don't remember off the top of my head whether the '99s had the chipped keys or not. If you do have a chipped key, you'll need to get a chipped blank (expensive) and have the dealer cut and program it. If I recall correctly the dealership wanted something like $170 for a new key cut and programmed.
