Is your check engine light on? If so, get the codes, it's very simple

i have no check engine light on my federal-emission car 1989...

only CA-emission cars in that vintage SOHC had this light, as well as the intake temp sensor, and an extra trouble code for fuel injector leak.

soo, just waiting for his reply/update

nismo,

tell your bf to roll up his sleeves & actually pull the codes!

if the motor is thinking it's cooler than it really is, car would be running rich all the time & won't go into "closed loop."

u will be just running off the preset factory limits that the ecu has stored, wasting gas, wearing out your cat converter, etc.

come on... u got a personal mech? i know its hard to work on his own personal cars after a 10-12 hour shift working on other peoples' cars, but u gotta offer him something good in exchange :P

how can you pull code when there's no CHECK ENGINE light on??? and my car is runnin rich-- it backfires and blows flames-- and i dont even have a cat anyways so i guess wearin it out isnt an issue-- and yea i got a personal mech he AND i work on cars together-- i help him w/ his and he helps me w/ mine-- he doesnt work 10-12 he works m-f 8-5:30 w/ an hour lunch break-- plus he does what he loves so its not a problem to work on cars all the time yea he gets something good too

nismo,

u can pull codes w/out the check engine light on...

w/ my car that's not equipped w/ one <grrr, what were they thinking?> u can pull the ecu from the passenger kick panel, unbolt it, turn it around so u see the LEDs, then follow procedure from the FSM or http://www.240sx.org FAQs
