I am having some issues with the speedometer in my 1993 240sx..

the speedometer works about maybe 40% of the time...

when its does work, it jumps around..like it will be 60 then jump up to 70 then down ...just doesn't stay at the correct speed..

need info. on what it might be and pics of the part if you do have any...i am a bit new to this car

it helps a lot,Thanks

Check the wiring from the speedo to the transmission.

There is a sensor located on the passenger side of the transmision almost even with the door handle. This is the speed sensor. Pull it out and try cleaning it if that doesn't work. let me know. I have one for a 95. idk if they are the same but we'll find out.

if that doesnt correct the problem, borrow a friend's DOHC cluster and swap it in temporarily. if it solves the problem, buy a new cluster.

I took mine apart for an unrelated purpose last night and believe me, unless you get lucky and see a bad connection somewhere its not something worth trying to repair when replacements are cheap.
