Hey guys

Im installing some rear upper control arms from SPL..... Drivers side went on fairly smooth... That stupid notched washer was kind of hard to get off but I eventually got it... Damn this stuff is on tight.

Anywho, i go to install the passenger side and after some negotiations, the bushing is now spinning inside the control arm, on the inboard side.....

Any advice how to overcome this so i can get the bolt out???

*confused*

I've done these on a 240 so and as far as I know they're similiar.

You still have the factory RUCA on right?

You're using two wrenches. One on the hex head and one on the nut? If so I don't see why it would matter if the bushing is turning.

But to keep it from turning you could drill the old arm and the bushing to put another bolt or a nail or something in it. Or grind it off and punch it out. I can't think of anything else... assuming I understand what the problem is.

Oh yeah, those stupid notched washers are annoying!

Ok sorry for the confusion.

yes, they are the same on the Q as they are the 240.....

Heres what the deal is, i got the nut off one end of the factory one... I ahvent gotten the factory arm out yet.. thats my deal..

So the nut is off, but the bushing spins freely inside the arm with the bolt... Obviously the bushing wont go through the little hole...

what I need to do is somehow get the bolt to seperate from the bushing so i can push the bolt through the hole. nut is off, now I just have to get the bolt out in order to get the arm out...

Picture this. Alan told me to try and tighten everything up.. I have the front bolt removed on the control arm, and everything is as tight as i can get it (say over 100ftlbs)... I can move the control arm up and down with ease... The bushing is seperated from the walls of the control arm...

I hope im making sense, im going to mess with it tomorrow.. Man I hate old suspensions with rotted rubber parts!!!

You can't just knock it out with a hammer and a punch or another bolt?

What about levering it out? Can you get a bar between it and part of your subframe?

Screwdriver under the bolt head?

A two arm Puller might push it out as you tighten it down. You might have to hold it but it could work.

no, because the bolt head is still up against the arm.

what i suggested is using a C clamp to push the bolt through

Well, put it against the threaded end not the head. Same set up as a c-clamp but with little hooks instead to try to "pull" the arm.

I've never had much luck using C-clamps in this capacity because they really need to be lined up well or they'll fall off.

I think what im going to do is just forget messing with it, cut the bolt, get a new one, and move on with life..... I think i know someone who has a set of bolt cutters... hopefully i can get a set of bolt cutters in there..

I appreciate the ideas but theres not a lot of room to get said hardware in there... at this point we just gotta get the bolt out either by cutting or whatever.

Well now... I got the arm off, but the metal sleeve that is inside the bushing is fused to the bolt.....

I tried putting vicegrips on it and turning it, but it just turns inside the vice grips... Im thinking at this point itwould have been easier to swap the subframe.....!
