Ah, you just sounded to me like you had near zero experience wtih cars in general, but that does not appear to be the case.
Yes, the 240SX is just a touch different than European makes. I have looked under the hood of some VW's before, and the way they lay things out is abit different.
Here is the Cliff's Notes lowdown:
1989 - 1994 models were called the "S13" Here is the breakup1989 - 1990 USDM (US Domestic Market) 240SX KA24E ~140HP1991 - 1994 USDM 240SX KA24DE ~155HPFor 1989 - 1993 the 240SX came in 2 body shapes. A coupe that had a definite trunk, and a fastback which had a roof that sloped into the tail. From 1992 - 1994 the coupe was available as a soft top convertable.For 1994, only the convertable existed.
1995-1998 were called "S14" and all came with the KA24DE ~155HP1995 and 1996 are referred to as "Zenki", and 1997 and 1998 are referred to as "Kouki". The only real difference is a change in headlight and taillight styling.
Note that nowhere in here was the 240SX equiped with the SR20DE engine. Also a lucky few 240SX's in America (1991 - 1998) got a Limited Slip Differential and Super Hicas four wheel steering.
Now for the Japanese market. People correct me if I am erroneous anywhere in here.Start with the S13 model. The S13 Coupe had a different set of headlights than ours and was called the "Silvia". The S13 Fastback is pretty much identical and was called the 180SX. In Japan the S13 Coupe was sold from 1988 to 1994 and the S13 Fastback was sold from 1988 to 1998.
For the JDM S13, the engine options were the CA18DE, CA18DET, SR20DE, and the SR20DET (where DE means twincam Fuel Injected with no turbo, DET means twincam Fuel Injected with turbo).
For the JDM S14, only the SR20DE and SR20DET were available (if the CA18DE was available for the S14, correct me)
Finally, the S15 was sold from 1999 to the end of production (don't know the year it ended). Same engine options as the S14. We never got this model in America.
This is a good FAQ on the SR20DET swap. It's a link from one of the NICO sponsors. (Phase 2 is still a sponsor, right) It's also a trustworthy place to buy your engine.
