so heres the deal, i picked up a 90 Q for $400 bones and quickly replaced the alternator

this is the list of crap thats wrong...

1) the ABS pump and motor assembly is leaking, i used metal epoxy to gum up the leaks and so far its worked, i replaced all the pads and abs sensors but the display still reads "brake pads warn", how do i turn that off? and where can i get an ABS pump and motor assembly for hopefully cheap?

2) transmission, when in drive (D) it still acts like its in neutral (N) but when in 1,2,3 it drives fine, a bit grindy when first starting out from a stop but smooth after that and shifts fine, but when i give it more then half throttle it just slips. im sure that the shift solenoids are to blame but im not sure which one to replace?

any help would be great! Thanks

0. Welcome to NICO!!

1. You should be able to pick one up used pretty easy. What happens when owners (previous or current) dont change the brake fluid... stuff starts leaking...

2. I would say youll be looking at a new trans... have you installed a transmission cooler and put in FRESH fluid? Might be worth installing a cooler (youll want to anyway when the new trans goes in) and doing a flush. $200 could make the trans go for another month or another year, who knows but IMO its worth trying.

And you realy need to read the Article about timing chain guides so you can budget your $6K rehabilitation.

Sounds like the maintenance was not too good, so change all fluids after changing the ABS unit and the tranmission. Don't drive or even start it until you have removed the front timing chain covers. Really.

If you replaced the alternator quickly, you should write an article. Always great to get a new poster who knows what an adverb is!

after pulling the old alt out, (from the bottom) i just reversed the opperation, to my supprise it went in very easily after pulling the fan shrowed out, i put the wires on the alternator before i bolted it up, the bottom bolt was fine. However the top bolt seemed to not want to thread.... so i said to my self..."self what the "F"?" i pulled the alternator back down and stuck my hand back behind the top bolt hole and felt around blindly and found a Fing nut.... long story short i put a drop of silicon adhesive on the nut and alt and stuck them together and installed without a hitch, all without air tools

so list of repairs needed

Chain GuidesNew TrannyNew ABS pump

anything else?

If you don't find one here, check http://www.car-part.com

They changed styles in 1994(?) so you want to make sure you get a 92 or 93 if possible. The seals were updated sometime in 1991 (i think) so I would get one as new as possible.

The other option is to send yours off for rebuilding... it costs about $300 if I remember correctly. I ended up sending mine to A1 Cardone through Pep Boys back in 2000. That was the best deal available at the time.

Good luck!
