Hey everyone names Kenny I'm new to the forum and would really like your help with something I'm 19 in college drive a 1990 300zx and really want to install a rear mount kit running 5-pounds. I know that's about all I can run because of the high compression, I WAS WOUNDERING WHAT ALL DO I NEED TO COMPLETE A FULL KIT? I have researched STS kits but they want $2000 and I know I can build my own with under $800 bucks, ALSO CAN I HAVE A INTERCOOLER HOOK-UP? AND DO I NEED ANOTHER FILTER CONNECTED TO THE TURBO?
Can't wait to read the answers.

Thanks and God Bless
if you have pics add me on Facebook and send them type:Kenny Tillman
Or email me pics of rear mount at: [email protected]

We run STS on our Pike's Peak 240. In all honesty, $2000 from them is relatively cheap, because the only way to do these kits is with a lot of fab work. $800 is fairly unrealistic, to be honest. It's also not anything I'd ever suggest, from what we have learned from it. Rear mounts might do some interesting things on a Corvette or something, but when it comes to slightly lower hp cars like our Nissans, the spool up issues it faces are not worth it. We have played with it the last few years, and have decided to change it up to a more conventional setup for the upcoming year.

Hope that helps...

Oh, and welcome!

Oh ok so I should just save up and get the STS? I would have to buy the Universal Kit. And do you think I will receive a power difference running 5-6 pounds on a high compression engine like the Z32?

Welcome to the NICO Club forums. Sounds like you have a heckuva project going on there. We have a forum devoted to the 300ZX -- you should go check that out, read the build threads and get more comfortable with what you're wanting to do.

FWIW, I never recommend anyone doing something like that to your daily driver unless you have a backup DD you can operate in the meantime. This isn't something you're going to be able to pull off in a weekend.

I'd agree and say that if you don't have a second car, this might be a terrible idea. To answer your question, though, you will get a decent power gain. Nothing mind blowing, but you'll feel a nice top end pull. It would kind of follow the same lines of v-tec if you're familiar where the top end is where all of the fun is. This would, of course, be WAY better than v-tec.

I mean, you could swap the TT engine in there too. Much more affordable than doing something nobody has done before, and for good reason (Lag issues.)

You can also talk to the guy that took an oem tt setup and installed on his NA motor and ran it fine with Meth injection up until recently. He's relatively new.

VH45 swaps are becoming more popular with us too. Check out the z32 forum like the other guy said. Lot's of answers/suggestions for this question are likely to surface.

:welcome:!

Yea you should come over to the Z sections. We love having discussions about this type of stuff haha

And yea about the guy that TTkickedin is talking about his name is KlutchZ32..

Also people have done a rear mount setup on the J30..

IMO there is not really a point in running a rear mount on a Z32 just because they come TT so even on the NA chassis its not that hard to convert to a TT (from what i hear)

Keep in mind though a converted TT will never be as good as a factory TT. It may pay you to just save up money drive your NA then buy a TT and just daily your NA Z.
