Hi there:

I haven't removed the side mirrors on my car, but I have done a lot of R&R on the doors and panels. I believe you will have to completely remove the door panel to access the 2-3 nuts holding the mirror on. Once you remove the door panel, you can pull the plastic window trim (which includes the small speaker grill) up out of the way and get to the nuts. Then just unplug the mirror harness and install your replacement. Just make sure the new mirror is snug before installing everything or you will be doing the job twice.

Also, don't just tear into the door panel removal without consulting the factory service manual or you will break things or chew it up and it will be an eyesore forever.

Good luck.

Psst... before you get over your head, you should download the factory service manual (FSM) at http://www.phatg20.com and also do some free searches on this site as different projects come up -- and trust me, they will.

You will have to remove the door panels which is not a big deal if you follow the FSM and use a cloth so as not to scratch anything. Just go slow and take your time. However, what the FSM does not tell you is how to get the door panels back on and you can ruin the top of your panels if you mess this part up.

Getting the panels back on is like putting a rubber tire on a bicycle wheel. You will need a long screwdriver to stick between the lip of the top panel and the top metal rim of the door while you gradually pull out and up on the plastic to get the middle part of the lip over the top metal rim of the door. Sort of like you do when putting a tire on.

Sometimes the door panel will just drop in place with no problems but in case it does not, use that long screwdriver (you will need it anyway to get the panels off) handy to get it on without pulling your hair out.
