Need help with tire sizing..

I was going to put duratracs on my stock 98 qx. I was gonna get ones that sit 30.5" ..but when I went to measure the height of my wheel weel its only like 31 3/4 off the ground ..will the bigger tire lift the well enough to fit a bigger tire or does it have to be trimmed ..
