need help with this.

ok guys i looked for this but could not find it nowhere.i was wondering about the vacume canstier (sp) that has a hose running to the gas tank.i was wanting to know if i could just take this out or do i need this.by the way i have a 1990 s13.i really dont know what this is for but i would like to clean the engine bay up and get this thing out of there.any info would be great.

I always remove that canister and just leave the pipe open. Bend it down a bit to keep the hole clean.I don´t know if you smog guys check this but over here they never check the canister.

basically all the charcol canister is for is to absorb the evaporation emissions from the gas tanks and holds them until you start your car, then sucks them up into the motor and burns them. as swedish mike said, just remove it, and bend the line down so you dont catch dirt and water in there.

I wouldn't leave it open.. I wouldn't remove it also since in theory having it improves your mileage (burning the fumes you otherwise wouldn't use) and the only downside is it taking up space (no performance issues).. if I was to remove it I'd cap off the line, either there at the front or at the tank.

I wish I could find a smaller one, but I don't think thats likely to happen.. my SMIC pipes barely fit next to it :D
